WAEC, alongside NECO and GCE, are the only O level result that can grant you admission into any Nigerian educational institution. Whether you newly want to gain admission or you want to further your studies, you will be required to submit your O level result(s) in addition to other required documents.

Now, how many subjects are written in WAEC as well as in NECO or GCE? The answer is 9 subjects and you are required to have at least credit passes in 5 subjects. Mind you, the credit passes you have must be in core subjects. You might be wondering what are core subjects.

These are subjects that are important for the course you have chosen to study at the higher institution and you must not fail those subjects at your O level. If for example, you want to study Banking and Finance, then, Mathematics, English, Economics and Financial Accounting are core subjects. If you fail any subjects at your O level, you won’t be gain admission.

Notwithstanding, if you fail any of the core subjects, you can use combinations of results. This means you can write another O level examination. You can learn more about combinations of results here.

Like I mentioned earlier, You are required to write 9 subjects in WAEC, NECO and GCE. However, you may choose to write less than 9 subjects if you are rewriting/resitting for O level exam. Many people resist O level examinations because they failed or did not pass the required core subjects. You can ignore the subjects you passed and write only those ones you failed.

By default, The following listed subjects below are compulsory in WAEC and NECO whether you are resitting or not. All you need to do is to add 5 more core subjects to make it 9 subjects. You can learn more about Trade subjects here. Are you curious to know many subjects are written in JAMB too? Check Here
