Code of Conduct For Students In College

Where there are no boundaries, there is no trespass. A student code of conduct is a set of rules around behaviours for the students to follow within a school. The code acts as a standard or a policy framework for identifying and resolving issues of behaviour and conduct of students.

Generally, the student code of conduct sets out values, principles, behaviours and conduct required of all students and directs students to the rules that apply to the code. A well-written code of conduct clarifies a school’s values and principles. Thus, codes of conduct set the benchmarks for students to live up to.

Sample Student Code of Conduct

To have Consideration for:

• Learning and achievement
• Each other: valuing different views, beliefs and cultures
• Our community: supporting activities and presenting a positive image of the school
• The environment: keeping it clean and tidy and fit for learning
• The school rules and regulations

To Take Responsibility For:

• Making significant progress and being a successful learner
• Setting high standards of behaviour, conduct, appearance and attitude
• Being independent learners and leaders, taking initiative and supporting others
• Meeting the challenges of the future and being confident in all that you do
• Making a positive contribution to society

To Develop Relationships Which:

• are valued and supported by each other in and out of school
• allow you to lead safe and healthy lives and look after the wellbeing of each other
• help you think creatively and rationally and be enthusiastic about learning
• help you know and value other people

Students Are Expected To:

• Be prepared for lessons
• Be punctual
• Wear the correct uniform at all times
• Keep quiet and calm at break and lunchtime in the school building
• Put their litter into the bins and keep Batchwood litter-free
• Respect the property of others
• Allow others to be themselves and respect their right to be individual
• Responsibility for their own actions and ensure they always act in a respectful manner that supports the dignity, safety and wellbeing of others.
• Report any incidents of misconduct they have witnessed and intervene where it is safe to do so as detailed. The details on the reporting procedure:

• unreasonably disrupts, interferes with, or undermines school activities, events, functions and teaching
• Climbing of fences, trees, or buildings
• Use of portable electronic devices while on school grounds during the school day (cell phones, music players, etc.), except with permission from a teacher or staff member. Students may use school telephones to make necessary calls while on school grounds. Students are discouraged from carrying music players or cell phones to school. Students may keep such devices in their backpacks or in the school office in the off position.
• Possession or use of a weapon including fake or imitation weapons such as water guns, any knives (including plastic knives, pocket knives), etc.
• Possession, sale, or use of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco
• Theft
• Fighting: physical assault or battery of any kind
• Bullying of any kind is unacceptable and will NOT be tolerated. Repeated bullying of a student may be treated as harassment, and the bullying student subject to more serious disciplinary action. Bullying includes but is not limited to the following:
  • Physical acts
  • Verbal acts
  • Non-verbal acts
  • Cyber-bullying
• Any incidents of bullying via the computer, cell phones, or related media (e-mail, blogs, websites, instant messaging, pictures/photos, text messaging, etc.) which affect student relationships/behaviour within the school building are subject to disciplinary action. This applies to messaging which takes place outside of school, as well as any prohibited messaging which might take place within the school.
• Harassing, threatening, or intimidating a pupil
• Disrespect toward an adult (cursing, name-calling, etc.)
• Defiance of the school staff
• Sexual harassment of any kind
• Arson
• Inappropriate displays of affection
• Selling or buying items at school
• Gambling
• Forgery (of parent notes, etc.)
