WAEC subject combination (requirements) for Agricultural Economics

The subjects needed to study Agricultural Economics in WAEC must contain five (5) credit. This subject combination is also applicable to NECO AND GCE… The required WAEC subject combination (O level requirement) for Agricultural Economics must include:

  1. Mathematics
  2. Chemistry
  3. Biology/Agricultural Science
  4. One of Geography, Physics and Economics

 

JAMB UTME subject combination (requirements) for Agricultural Economics 

Knowing JAMB subjects for Agricultural Economics is not enough. You should aim for a score of 180 – 200 and above in JAMB UTME to be on a safe side (Just a piece of advice) because anything short of that may deny you of Admission/Post UTME. Of course, if you have a score below 180, you can consider College of Education or Polytechnic… Please note – JAMB is not the only option for admission. Direct Entry requirement (required A-level result) to study Agricultural Economics
Two ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and one of Zoology/Botany/Agricultu ral Science/Biology, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Geology, Economics and Health Science.

Agricultural Economics is how many years course and under which faculty?

Depending on your mode of entry, Agricultural Economics is a three to four years course in Nigeria. According to JAMB, this course is under Faculty of Agriculture but may be under a different faculty in some universities.

Can a commercial or art student study Agricultural Economics

No! Agricultural Economics is a pure science course and not suitable for commercial or art student. But if you have required subject combination in your O level result, you can go for it if that is the course you desire to study. If you’re still in secondary school, you may find it difficult to change subjects during WAEC registration because your schools may go against it. The alternative way to write the required subjects combination for Agricultural Economics is through GCE.

The SSCE O level and A-level subject needed to study Agricultural Economics have been listed above but, some Universities may accept D7 or E8 in some a compulsory subject instead of Credit. And some may accept or reject two sittings. That is combinations of WAEC, NECO, or GCE results. You will know more when you take a look at the special consideration (waiver) for this course

What is Direct Entry Special Consideration (Waiver) for Agricultural Economics
(i) University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) accept (a) Two ‘A’ level passes (London/Cambridge/ Cameroon) (in Chemistry and any of Biology/Botany/Zoology/Agricultural Science. Economics, Physics Geography/Geology, Mathematics (Pure & Applied) in addition to UTME entry requirements. (b) OND/NCE/HND and Degree holders in Agricultural Science/Animal Health and related fields with a minimum of Lower Credit (Merit) in addition to UTME Entry requirements.
(ii) Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) accepts: (a) Two `A’ level passes in Chemistry and one of Zoology/ Botany/ Agricultural Science/ Biology, Mathematics, Physics, or Economics. (b) HND/OND in Agriculture obtained at upper credit level from recognized Institution.
(iii) University of Benin (UNIBEN) accepts Merit in ND (Upper credit)/HND (Lower credit) in any one of Agric-Economics, AgricExt., and Cooperatives, Fisheries, Forestry & Wildlife Mgt., Geology, Advanced Microbiology, Food and Brewing Sc., Science Lab. Tech. plus UTME requirements. NCE in Agric. Science, Biology, Chemistry or Physics (overall merit pass) plus UTME requirements. Does not accept ‘A’ level pass in HealthScience.
(iv) Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) accepts Upper credit only. Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) also accepts NCE (Credit) in Agric Science, Biology, Chemistry or Physics.
(v) Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye accepts: (a) Credit pass in OND (Agric) into 100 level. (b) requires ‘A’ level pass in both Chemistry and Biology. (c) OND (Distinction), HND (credit), NCE (Double major) at credit level in Agric.
(vi) Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) accepts NCE, OND/HND (Double major in Agric with at least a credit level pass into 200 level of the programme.
(vii) Michael Okpara University of Agricultural Umudike as in Agriculture.
(viii) University of Agriculture, Makurdi accepts OND/HND/NCE in Agric, Agric. Science and Education, Forestry, Home Economics, Food Science and wildlife who posses UTME requirements. Candidates with a credit in only one of Mathematics and Physics must at least have a pass in the other.
(ix) Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) accepts OND/HND (Upper credit) only.
(x) Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) requires at least two A’ level passes not below Grade C in Chemistry and any one of Zoology, Botany, Agricultural Science, Biology, Mathematics, Physics and Economics. It also accepts Upper Credit OND/HND in Agricultural Science but does not accept First Degree and NCE. Candidates must in addition meet the UTME O’ level requirements.
(xi) Osun State University Osogbo (UNIOSUN) same as in Fisheries.
(xii) Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH) requires Chemistry, Biology/agric. Science and any one of Physics/Economics /Geography.
(xii) Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) accepts: (a) Two ‘A’ level credit in Chemistry and one of Zoology/Botany/Agricultural Science, Biology, Mathematics/Physics. (b) HND/OND in Agriculture obtained at upper credit level from a recognized institution. (c) NCE in Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry or Physics (minimum of credit) plus UTME requirement.

What is WAEC, NECO, GCE, Special Consideration (Waiver) for Agricultural Economics
(i) University of Agriculture, Makurdi and Michael Okpara University of Agricultural Umudike accept a pass in Physics.
(ii) Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) accepts a pass in English Language.
(iii) Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki and Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye require ‘O’ level credit in pass Physics.
(v) University of Benin (UNIBEN) accepts Statistics and Further Mathematics. Also requires at least a pass in Physics and a pass in Biology for candidates with a credit in Agric. Science.
(vi) Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) does not require credit in Geography and Economics.
(vii) Osun State University Osogbo (UNIOSUN) same as in Fisheries.
(viii) Michael Okpara University of Agricultural Umudike requires five ‘O’ level credit in not more than two sittings to include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science and any other Science subjects. Also credit in Agricultural Science must be backed up with at least a pass in Biology
(x) Osun State University Osogbo (UNIOSUN) requires five ‘O’ Level credit in the SSCE or its equivalent at not more than two sittings in addition to an acceptable credit in the UME.
(xi) University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) accepts five O ’level credit in subjects which must include English Lang., Biology/or Agric. Science, chemistry and either mathematics or physics.
(xii) Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) requires five SSCE credit in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science and Economics. It accepts a Pass in Physics in not more than two sittings.
(xiii) Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH) requires English, Chemistry, Biology/Agric. Science and any one of Physics/ Economics/Geography.
(xii) Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) requires: a) Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology. b) At least a pass in Physics. c) Candidates with pass grade in Biology must possess credit in Agricultural Science. It does not accept Agricultural Science in lieu of Biology.
(xiii) Landmark University, Omu-Aran requires credit passes in English, Mathematics, Chemistry Biology/Agric Science with a pass in Physics. N.B. Credit pass in Agric Science must be backed up with at least a pass in Biology

What is JAMB UTME Special Consideration (Waiver) for Agricultural Economics
(i) Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye – Same as in Agricultural Extension and Sociology.
(ii) Landmark University, Omu-Aran Chemistry, Physics/Mathematics, and one from Biology, Agric Science, Geography.
