WAEC Subject Combination For Library and Information Science

In WAEC, NECO or GCE, you are expected to register a maximum of 9 subjects for a Library and Information Science degree. You can register for less than 9 subjects if you are resitting.

However, you must have at least 5 credit passes amongst the 9 subjects listed below before you can gain admission into any Nigerian university to study for a Library and Information Science degree.

Remember, the requirement you’re about to read is also applicable to all o level examinations. (WAEC, NECO and GCE). We have painstakingly highlighted (in red) the core subjects on which you must obtain credit before gaining admission. Any subject with blue colour means, a pass is allowed.

If however, you fail one of the core subjects, you should read through each university’s special requirements for this course below to see if there is a university that may accept another subject in lieu of the one you failed. For this degree, you are also required to register for 4 subjects and English is compulsory. More so, your JAMB score in addition to your POST UTME score will determine the cumulative score that the university will use to decide your candidacy for admission.

Library and Information Science is how many years course and under which faculty?

Depending on your mode of entry, Library and Information Science is a three to four years course in Nigeria. According to JAMB, this course is under the Faculty of Education but may be under a different faculty in some universities.

 

Special Consideration to study Library and Information Science

  • UNZIK accepts five TC II merits including English Language and at least a pass in Mathematics.
  • University of Ibadan (UI) – Same as in Guidance and Counselling.
  • Umar Musa Yar’ Adua University Katsina (UMYU) requires five O/Level credit including English Language, Mathematics and any other three Social Science/Arts/Science subjects.
  • Tai Solarin University of Education Ijebu Ode (TASUED) requires five credits at one sittings or six credits at two sittings.
  • Osun State University Osogbo (UNIOSUN) same as in Vocational and Technical Education.
  • The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) requires University minimum entry requirements with five O’ level credits, including the subject to be combined with Library and Information Science. The following additional requirements apply to particular combination: (a) Credit in Mathematics for Library & Information Science/Physics & Library and Information Science/Economics. (b) Credit in Mathematics/Physics for Library & Information Science/ Chemistry. (c) Pass in Mathematics for those combining Library & Information Science with Botany, Geography/Physics, Political Science or Zoology. (d) Credit in English Language for those combining Library & Information Science with French, History or Political Science. (e) credit in English Literature for Library & Information Science/English.
  • Abia State University, Uturu requires Five SSCE credit to include English Language, four other subjects and at least a pass in Mathematics.
  • Federal University of Technology, Minna requires credit in Physics and any other science or social science subject.
  • Kogi State University Anyigba accepts a pass in Mathematics and credit in four other relevant subjects including English Language.
  • University of Benin (UNIBEN) accepts five O’ level credit at not more than two sittings.
  • University of Jos (UNIJOS) requires five credit in WASCE or NECO at not more than two sittings including English Language. Accepts a pass in Mathematics.
  • Bauchi State University, Gadau English Language, Mathematics to form the core course with Credits in 2 Science Subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics and ICT and 1 Credit in Economics, Commerce, Business Method and Financial Accounting
