WAEC subject combination (requirements) for Education and English Language

The subjects needed to study Education and English Language in WAEC must contain five (5) credit. This subject combination is also applicable to NECO AND GCE… The required WAEC subject combination (O level requirement) for Education and English Language must include

  1. English Language
  2. Literature in English
  3. Plus three other Arts or Social Science subjects
  4. A Trade Subject

 

JAMB UTME subject combination (requirements) for Education and English Language 

Knowing JAMB subjects for Education and English Language is not enough. You should aim for a score of 180 – 200 and above in JAMB UTME to be on a safe side (Just a piece of advice) because anything short of that may deny you of Admission/Post UTME. Of course, if you have a score below 180, you can consider College of Education or Polytechnic… Please note – JAMB is not the only option for admission. (i) Two ‘A’ level passes in relevant teaching subjects including Literature in English.

Education and English Language is how many years course and under which faculty?

Depending on your mode of entry, Education and English Language is a three to four years course in Nigeria. According to JAMB, this course is under Faculty of Education but may be under a different faculty in some universities.

Special Consideration
The SSCE O level and A-level subject needed to study Education and English Language have been listed above but, some Universities may accept D7 or E8 in some a compulsory subject instead of Credit. And some may accept or reject two sittings. That is combinations of WAEC, NECO, or GCE results. You will know more when you take a look at the special consideration (waiver) for this course

What is Direct Entry Special Consideration to study Education and English Language?
(i) EDLAV do not accept grade less than D in Literature in English in ‘A’ level or its equivalent.
(ii) University of Benin (UNIBEN) accepts: a) Two A/level passes plus UTME requirements / 2 or 3 NCE (merit passes) including English Language plus 3 or 2 ‘O’ level credit in English Language and any of Literature-in-English, Religious Knowledge, Fine Arts, French, History or Government at one sittings.
(iii) Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) accepts two ‘A’ Level passes in relevant subjects including Literature in English. NCE with credit or merit passes in two relevant teaching subjects including Literature in English may be accepted.
(iv) University of Jos (UNIJOS) and EDALV accept holders of NationalDiploma.
(v) University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), EDALV and University of Ibadan (UI) accept NCE with at least credits in subjects to be combined with Education into 300 level. (vi) University of Port-Harcourt (UNIPORT) – No Direct Entry admission.
(viii) Benue State University, Makurdi requires ‘A’ level passes in relevant teaching subjects including Lit-in-English, NCE with English Language and any other Arts subject.
(ix) Lagos State University, Ojo (LASU) accepts only NCE (merit) in English and one other Arts subject.
(x) Umar Musa Yar’ Adua University Katsina (UMYU) accepts two A/Level passes at credit level. NCE credit in English and any other Arts Subjects is also acceptable.
(xi) Benson Idahosa University, Benin City requires in addition to the O’ level requirements specified in the table above, a minimum of two relevant subjects passed at GCE Advanced level or NCE (3 merits) or NationalDiploma in relevant field not below credit level is required.
(xii) Tai Solarin University of Education Ijebu Ode (TASUED) accepts At least a Merit pass in two NCE teaching subjects including English Literature (not General English) provided that they meet the basic ‘O’ level requirement.
(xiii) Osun State University Osogbo (UNIOSUN) accepts two A/Level passes at credit level to include English.
(xiv) Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki accepts NCE/Two ‘A’ level passes in English, Literature.
(xv) Saadatu Rimi College of Education, Kumbotso – Candidates must obtain not less than eight (8) points in NCE.
(xvi) University of Lagos (UNILAG) accepts (a) Very good passes in three JUPEB subjects: Lit-inEnglish, and any two of French, Igbo, Yoruba, History, CRS, IRS, Government, Economics and Arabic. (b) Two (2) A/Level passes in English and Lit-in English. (c) NCE: English, Lit-in-English, Mathematics and any other two subjects. (d) Candidates must also satisfy the O/Level requirement
(xvii) Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba accepts: (a) A/Level passes level to include English and one relevant subject. (b) Two merit passes in NCE teaching subjects.

What is WAEC, NECO, GCE Special Consideration to study Education and English Language
(i) Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) accepts General English at NCE in lieu of ‘O’ level credits/TC II merit in English Language.
(ii) Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba and Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) accept any other subjects.
(iii) Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) requires ‘O’ level credits in Literature in English and other Arts subjects.
(iv) Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) requires five ‘0’ Level credits which should include English Language and Literature in English plus credit in any three other subjects or Credit/Merit passes in 5 TC II subjects relevant to the course of study may be accepted.
(v) Benue State University, Makurdi accepts credit/merit at TC II in relevant subjects.
(vi) University of Benin (UNIBEN) requires five O’ level credit to include English Language and other subjects from Literaturein-English, History, French, Fine Arts, Government and Religious Knowledge.
(viii) Umar Musa Yar’ Adua University Katsina (UMYU) requires five O/Level credit including English Language, Literature in English and any other three relevant subjects in Arts or Social Science with a credit in Mathematics.
(ix) Tai Solarin University of Education Ijebu Ode (TASUED) requires Five SSCE credits at one sittings or six ‘O’ level credits at two sittings to include Literature in English, English Language and at least one other Arts subject.
(x) Abia State University, Uturu requires Five SSCE credit to include English Language, English Literature and any three subject.
(xi) UNIOSU School Certificate (SSCE) or its equivalents with credit level passes in five (5) subjects: English Language, Mathematics and English Literature to form the core subjects, with credit in three (3) other relevant Art or Social Science subject at not more than two sittings. The candidate must earn an acceptable score in the UTME
(xii) Lagos State University, Ojo (LASU) requires a credit in Mathematics.
(xiii) University of Abuja, Gwagwalada and Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki require five `O` level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Lit-in-English and two other Arts subjects.
(xiv) Godfrey Okoye University, Ugwuomu-Nike – Enugu State requires a credit in Mathematics but Literature is not compulsory.
(xv) University of Lagos (UNILAG) requires five Credits including English Language, Mathematics, Literature-in-English and any two of History/Government, any Nigerian Language, Economics/Commerce, Geography, French/ Arabic, CRS/IRS, Civic Education.
(xvi) Saadatu Rimi College of Education, Kumbotso requires credit in English Language, Mathematics, IRK/Arabic and two Arts subjects.
(xvii) Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, Jigawa (SLU) accepts five SSCE Credit passes to include English and two other subjects from History, Government, Geography, French, Arabic, Hausa, Islamic Studies and Economics.
(xviii) Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba requires Five SSCE credit to include English Language, Literature in English, Mathematics one Arts subject and any arts or Social Science subject

What is JAMB UTME Special Consideration to study Education and English Language?
(i) Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki and Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye require Literature in English and two Arts subjects.
(ii) University of Benin (UNIBEN) the third subject could also be Arts or Social Science subject.
(iii) Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba requires two other subject from Arts or Social Science.
(iv) University of Lagos (UNILAG) accepts any three Of Literature in English, History/Government, French, Geography, Math, Yoruba/Igbo, CRK/IRS, Economics, Commerce.
(v) Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, Jigawa (SLU) accepts any three subjects from Literature in English, History, Government, Arabic, French, Hausa and Islamic Studies
