In WAEC, NECO or GCE, you are expected to register a maximum of 9 subjects for an Estate Management degree. You can register for less than 9 subjects if you are resitting.

However, you must have at least 5 credit passes amongst the 9 subjects listed below before you can gain admission into any Nigerian university to study for an Estate Management degree.

About Estate Management Course

Estate management is quite a broad term for a number of areas that include property management, surveying, business and finance and the built environment and essentially the subject is primarily concerned with the valuation and management of land and buildings in the public and private sector.

That been said, this programme provides students with a rigorous understanding of the principles and practices involved in commercial property management, valuation, and planning and development surveying up to Bachelor’s degree standard.

Estate Management concerns the appraisal, acquisition, development, marketing and disposal of property, or sometimes the ongoing management of a property. Estate Management includes a wide category of commercial property such as offices, hotels, and retail development, or it can encompass the residential property.

The course is primarily designed for students who want to go into property profession, either in a private firm or government organization.

A career in Estate Management offers diverse challenges for those interested in creative management and the development of a property. For example, property development is a multi-stage process involving risk and it tends to attract those who have the entrepreneurial flair and are able to spot opportunities.

Estate Managers thrive on challenges and can cope creatively with setbacks when they arise. Patience is also a virtue in the profile of an Estate Management Surveyor, as it may take many years for an estate strategy to take shape.

Can a commercial or art student study Estate Management?

No! Estate Management is a pure science course and not suitable for commercial or art students. But if you have required subject combination in your O level result, you can go for it if that is the course you desire to study. If you’re still in secondary school, you may find it difficult to change subjects during WAEC registration because your schools may go against it. The alternative way to write the required subjects combination for Estate Management is through GCE.

 

Special consideration (waiver) for Estate Management

  • Federal University of Technology, Akure requires five credits in WASSCE or NECO or GCE (O/ L) or equivalent at NOT more than two sittings. The credits should be in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and two others from Geography, Chemistry, Agricultural Science / Biology, Commerce, Government, Fine Arts and Technical Drawing. Candidate is expected to have at least a pass in Physics.
  • Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) and Abia State University, Uturu accept Economics and any one of Geography, Chemistry, Physics and Biology.
  • Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) requires five credit in English Language, Mathematics, Economics or Geography and one other from Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Government and Technical Drawing.
  • Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK) requires credit in Economics.
  • University of Lagos (UNILAG) requires five SSCE credit including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any two of Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Geography, Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing/Fine Arts and Financial Accounting.
  • Federal University of Technology, Minna requires O/L credit including English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Chemistry or Physics and any one (1) of Biology, Geography and Accounting.
  • River State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) requires five ‘O’ level credit in English Language and Mathematics and any two (2) subjects from Geography, Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics (Additional Mathematics), Fine Arts, Chemistry.
  • Bauchi State University, Gadau requires for Estate Management five ‘O’ level credit in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics or Geography.
  • Bauchi State University, Gadau requires for Estate Management 5 O’ Level credits in English Language, Mathematics, plus 2 Science Subjects from Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Agric Science and a Credit in either Economics or Geography.
  • University of Uyo does not require a credit in Chemistry for Estate Management. Require Credit pass in Economics.
  • Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli requires at least a pass in English Language.
  • Cross River State University of Science &Technology, Calabar (CRUTECH) requires Geography and Economics
  • Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (ESUT) requires five credit in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any from Physics, Surveying, Building Construction, Geography, Biology, Technical Drawing and Fine Arts
  • Crescent University (CUAB) requires five O’ level credit in English Language, Mathematics, Geography and any two of Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Government, Biology, Social Studies and Technical Drawing.
  • Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Ikeji-Arakeji requires five credit English Language, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and any one of the following Geography, Fine Art, Woodwork, Technical Drawing, Biology or Economics plus ND at Upper Credit level.
  • Covenant University Ota requires credit to include Economics, one Science subjects and one of Geography or Technical Drawing
  • Osun State University Osogbo (UNIOSUN) requires Five ‘O’ Level credits in SSCE including Mathematics, English, Chemistry, Physics & Geography.
  • University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) requires Credit level pass in 5 subjects in not more than two sittings in Mathematics, English Language, Economics and any other two subjects of which, one must be a science subject.
  • Renaissance University, Enugu requires five SSCE credit in English Language, Mathematics, Geography, Economics and Biology at not more than two sittings.
  • Bells University of Technology, Otta requires Five SSCE Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and any two from Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Geography, and Technical Drawing.
  • Abia State University, Uturu requires five SSCE credit in English Language Mathematics, Economics and any other two subjects from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography and Technical Drawing.
  • Crescent University (CUAB) requires five credits in SSCE/GCE/NECO including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any other two subjects from Chemistry, Physics, Business Studies/Commerce, Geography, Biology, Agricultural Science and Technical Drawing.
  • Auchi Poly degree requires Credit level pass in 5 subjects in not more than two sittings to include Mathematics, English Language, Economics and any other two subjects.
  • University of Jos (UNIJOS) requires five credit to include English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any other two from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science, Geography, Book-Keeping or Financial Accounting, Fine Arts, Technical Drawing, Surveying and Building Construction.
