WAEC subject combination (requirements) for Food Technology
The subjects needed to study Food Technology in WAEC must contain five (5) credit. This subject combination is also applicable to NECO AND GCE… The O level requirement, that is, the required WAEC subject combination for Food Technology must include
- English Language
- Any other Science subject.

What is Food Technology course all about?
Food Technology is a science which deals with the techniques and principles involved in processing and preserving the food substances. The application of food science helps in manufacturing safe, wholesome and nutritious food products. The study of food technology is to develop new methods and systems for keeping food products safe and resistant from natural harms such as bacteria and other micro-organisms.
Food processing helps in preservation enhances the flavor and reduces the toxins in the food product which results in better distributional efficiency and easy marketing of the food product.
The modern food processing techniques is the key to flourishing supermarkets we have today. Extra nutrients can be added while processing the food and processed food is less susceptible to spoilage. Some of the techniques used are waxing, spray drying, juice concentrates, freeze drying and the introduction of artificial sweeteners, colorants, and preservatives.
The food processing industries are involved in processes such as primary and secondary processing, preservation, quality management, packaging and labeling of a variety of products such as dairy products, fish products, fruit & vegetable products, meat and poultry products, confectionery products and food grains.
JAMB UTME subject combination (requirements) for Food Technology
Knowing JAMB subjects for Food Technology is not enough. You should aim for a score of 180 – 200 and above in JAMB UTME to be on a safe side (Just a piece of advice) because anything short of that may deny you of Admission/Post UTME. Of course, if you have a score below 180, you can consider College of Education or Polytechnic… Please note – JAMB is not the only option for admission. If you’re having troubles JAMB UTME maybe it’s time you pass through IJBM, JUBEB, ND or Predegree.

Food Technology is how many years course and under which faculty?
Depending on your mode of entry, Food Technology is a three to four years course in Nigeria. According to JAMB, Food Technology is under Faculty of Agriculture but may be under a different faculty in some universities.
Can a commercial or art student study Food Technology?
No! Food Technology is a pure science course and not suitable for commercial or art student. But if you have required subject combination in your O level result, you can go for it if that is the course you desire to study. If you’re still in secondary school, you may find it difficult to change subjects during WAEC registration because your schools may go against it. The alternative way to write the required subjects combination for Food Technology is through GCE.
