Can a commercial or art student study Food Science and Technology?

No! Food Science and Technology is a pure science course and not suitable for commercial or art student. But if you have required subject combination in your O level result, you can go for it if that is the course you desire to study. If you’re still in secondary school, you may find it difficult to change subjects during WAEC registration because your schools may go against it. The alternative way to write the required subjects combination for Food Science and Technology is through GCE.

(i) Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) accepts ND (Upper credit) in Food Science and Technology – Under Engineering

(ii) Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) requires at least two ‘A’ level passes not below Grade C from Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry.  It also accepts at least Upper Credit ND/HND in relevant fields.  Candidates must in addition meet UTME ‘O’ Level requirements.  It does not accept First Degree or NCE.

(iii) University of Ibadan (UI) accepts ‘A’ level passes in Mathematics and Chemistry plus UTME requirements.

(iv) Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) accepts ND/HND (upper credit)  plus five  credits at ‘O’ level.

(v) Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH) accepts ND/HND (upper credit) in relevant fields into 200 level. Also GCE ‘A’ Level Passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH) may accept A/L Biology in lieu of Physics.

(vi)  University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) accepts a credit in Biology.

(vii) Wesley University of Science & Technology, Ondo accepts: (a) At least 2 “A” level passes in Chemistry, Agricultural Science or Biology, Physics or Home Economics. (b) Upper Credit passes in NCE and ND in addition to 5 Credits at WASC/GCE O’L /SSCE (or its equivalent)

(viii) Bells University of Technology, Otta  accepts (a)  Two A’ level passes in Chemistry/Physics/Biology/ Mathematics. (b)   ND/HND/approved IJMB in relevant fields.

(ix) University of Ibadan (UI) – As in Agric & Environmental Engineering

What is WAEC, NECO, GCE special consideration (waiver) for Food Science and Technology – Under Engineering
(i) Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) does not accept Biology in lieu of Physics.

(ii) Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) requires Biology as the fifth (5th) subject.

(iii) Bells University of Technology, Otta requires five SSCE Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics/ Agricultural Science/ Geography or Economics/ Food and Nutrition. May consider a pass in Physics at O’ level.

(iv) University of Ibadan (UI) – As in Agric & Environmental Engineering.

(v) Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH) accepts Agricultural Science in lieu of Biology
