Sociology and Anthropology course description

The sociology and Anthropology course prepares students for both academic and applied research careers in sociology and anthropology. It offers an essential liberal arts background for many careers and professions, including public service and administration, communications and public relations, law, business, medicine, journalism, arts management, environmental science, and other professions.

Sociologists and anthropologists study the structure and processes of traditional cultures and modern, industrial societies in both Western and non-Western cultures. They examine how culture, social structures (groups, organizations and communities) and social institutions (family, education, religion, etc.) affect human attitudes, actions and life chances. WAEC Subject Requirements To Study Sociology and Anthropology

In WAEC, NECO or GCE, you are expected to register a maximum of 9 subjects for a Sociology and Anthropology degree. You can register for less than 9 subjects if you are resitting.

However, you must have at least 5 credit passes amongst the 9 subjects listed below before you can gain admission into any Nigerian university to study for a Sociology and Anthropology degree.

Remember, the subject combination you’re about to read is also applicable to all o level examinations. (WAEC, NECO and GCE). In Nigeria, if you gain admission to study the Sociology and Anthropology degree course at the university through JAMB UTME, you will study Sociology and Anthropology for four years. If you gain admission through direct entry, you will study this course for three years. And of course, there is room for more years if you have an extension; the aftermath of carryover courses.
