The admission requirement to study Accounting in Nigeria Universities includes one or a combination of ‘O’ level results or A-level result if you’re going through Direct Entry. What is O level/WAEC subject combination (requirement) for Accounting?
The subjects needed to study Accounting in WAEC must contain five (5) credit. This subject combination is also applicable to NECO AND GCE… The O level requirement that is the compulsory WAEC subject combination for Accounting must include

  1. English Language
  2. Mathematics
  3. Economics
  4. Any relevant subject
  5. A trade subject

Accounting course prepares a student to be professional accountants, auditors, budget analysts, tax accountants, and to provide financial management services to individuals, businesses, and/or corporations (profit and not-for-profit). In today’s diverse, global, and technologically sophisticated accounting environment, these competencies are highly sought by employers. Through this program, students gain a practical knowledge of the principles, theories, concepts, and professional practices used in today’s global accounting environment.

Students will also master the digitization of accounting data and technology that support international financial reporting.  The accounting student explores the fundamentals of accounting in two introductory courses and completes a sequence of higher-level courses that cover financial accounting theory, cost accounting, auditing, advanced accounting topics, federal income tax, business law, and accounting information systems. The program is results-oriented and extends beyond theories and conceptual understanding to practical application.

Learning Outcomes

Accounting course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and practices, combining functional skills with a larger perspective of accounting’s role in business.

  • Students will apply problem-solving skills to multiple accounting situations, including those occurring in the international setting.
  • Students will communicate effectively about accounting and business practices within the context of larger organizational frameworks.
  • Students will access relevant accounting/financial guidance and apply it in their accounting practice.
  • Students will demonstrate well-developed competency in their accounting techniques.
  • Students will demonstrate collaborative skills across accounting and functional business areas.
  • Students will analyse sources of organizational risk.
  • Students will apply knowledge of the legal and regulatory environment in which the accounting profession operates.
  • Students will apply ethical reasoning in their accounting practices.

What is JAMB UTME subject combination (subjects needed) for Accounting?
You should aim for a score of 180 – 200 and above in JAMB UTME to be on a safe side (Just an advice) because anything short of that may deny you of Admission/Post UTME. Of course, if you have a score below 180, you can consider College of Education or Polytechnic… Please note – JAMB is not the only option for admission. If you’re having troubles JAMB UTME maybe it’s time you pass through IJBM, JUBEB, ND or Predegree. JAMB UTME subject combination (subject to write in jamb) for Accounting are

  1. Mathematics
  2. Economics
  3. Any other Social Science subject

 

What is Direct Entry requirement (that is the required A-level result you need) to study Accounting?
Two ‘A’ level passes including Economics

Where can I work with a Degree in Accounting? 
I believe you now know the subjects required to study Accounting. I urge you to also find out where you can work with the degree. Please take your time to read The Act of Getting a Job – so you would know what you’re up against after graduating. The typical accounting graduate enters the profession as a staff accountant in a public accounting firm, corporation, or governmental unit. Students may aspire to positions such as a senior accountant, manager, controller and comptroller etc.

 

The SSCE O level and A-level subject needed to study Accounting have been listed above. Yet, some Universities may accept D7 or E8 in some a compulsory subject instead of Credit. And some may accept or reject two sittings. That is combinations of WAEC, NECO, or GCE results.
