WAEC subject combination (requirements) for Accounting

You’re expected to have at least 5 credits on the required WAEC subject combination needed to study Accounting in Nigeria universities.

The required subject combination (o level requirement for Accounting) must include

  2. Mathematics
  3. Economics
  4. Any relevant subject
  5. A trade subject

JAMB UTME subject combination (requirements) for Accounting

Prepare yourself well so you can score above 200 in JAMB UTME to be on a safe side (Just a piece of advice) because anything short of this score may deny you Admission/Post UTME. Of course, if you have a score below 180, you can consider College of Education or Polytechnic

Course description: Accounting course prepares a student to be professional accountants, auditors, budget analysts, tax accountants, and to provide financial management services to individuals, businesses, and/or corporations (profit and not-for-profit). In today’s diverse, global, and technologically sophisticated accounting environment, these competencies are highly sought by employers. Through this program, students gain a practical knowledge of the principles, theories, concepts, and professional practices used in today’s global accounting environment.

Students will also master the digitization of accounting data and technology that support international financial reporting.  The accounting student explores the fundamentals of accounting in two introductory courses and completes a sequence of higher-level courses that cover financial accounting theory, cost accounting, auditing, advanced accounting topics, federal income tax, business law, and accounting information systems. The program is results-oriented and extends beyond theories and conceptual understanding to practical application.

Learning Outcomes

Accounting course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and practices, combining functional skills with a larger perspective of accounting’s role in business.

  • Students will apply problem-solving skills to multiple accounting situations, including those occurring in the international setting.
  • Students will communicate effectively about accounting and business practices within the context of larger organizational frameworks.
  • Students will access relevant accounting/financial guidance and apply it in their accounting practice.

I believe you now know the subjects required to study Accounting. I urge you to also find out where you can work with the degree. Please take your time to read The Act of Getting a Job – so you would know what you’re up against after graduating. The typical accounting graduate enters the profession as a staff accountant in a public accounting firm, corporation, or governmental unit. Students may aspire to positions such as a senior accountant, manager, controller and comptroller etc.
