JAMB UTME subject combination (requirements) for Sociology and Anthropology

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is a body responsible for your admission into the University or other institutions. Now I’m going to show you the compulsory JAMB subjects for Sociology and Anthropology that you must register (English must be included because it is compulsory even though it may not be listed among the JAMB subjects below), and I will honestly advise you to aim for a score of 200 and above in JAMB UTME instead of 180 to be on a safe side because anything short of that may deny you of Admission/Post UTME. Can a science or art student study Sociology and Anthropology?

Yes! If you are a Science, Commercial or an Art student, you can study Sociology and Anthropology at the university provided you have the required subjects combination in your O level result. What is Direct Entry Special consideration (waiver)  for Sociology and Anthropology
(i) University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) accepts two A’ level passes in Social Sciences or Arts subjects in addition to UTME requirements.

(ii) Ekiti State University and Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) – No direct entry

(iii) University of Benin (UNIBEN) requires two ‘A’ level passes including any Social Science subject; ND (Upper Credit)/HND (Lower Credit) in relevant Social Science disciplines such as public Administration, Mass Communication; NCE (overall merit) with credit pass in relevant Social Science subject. Direct Entry candidates must satisfy UTME requirements.

(iv) Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki accepts HND, NCE and ND with a minimum of Merit and Upper credit respectively in relevant fields.

(v) University of Uyo accepts ND/HND/NCE in relevant fields plus UTME requirements.

(vi) Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) O’ level credit passes from English language,, Mathematics and any three subjects from Economics, Geography, Government, Biology and Chemistry.

(vii) Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK) requires similar requirements as for Econs for both Direct Entry and UTME applicants but a pass in O/L Mathematics is acceptable.

(viii) Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU)- No Direct Entry.

(ix) Benson Idahosa University, Benin City same as Sociology and Anthropology

(x) Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) accepts Two ‘A’ level passes in subjects such as Economics, Geography, Government, History

(xi) Crescent University (CUAB) accepts IJAMB at acceptable grade levels.

(xii) Niger Delta University Yenagoa (NDU) accepts: (a) Two ‘A’ level passes in Government, Economics, Religious Knowledge, Geography, and History. (b) National Diploma in related area, provided such diploma is passed at upper credit level. (c) N.C.E. in related area at credit level.

(xiii) Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (ESUT) requires two A’ level passes including Government or History plus UTME requirements. Accepts ND in Social Work/Development and Administration, with at least a merit pass plus UTME requirements.

What is WAEC, NECO, GCE Special consideration (waiver)  for Sociology and Anthropology
(i) Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki requires ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, History/Government/Economics one science subject and any Arts or social science subject.

(ii) Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) accepts Five ‘O’ level credit passes to include Mathematics and History or Economics or Geography

(iii) University of Uyo requires at least P.7 in Mathematics

(iv) Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK) requires Five ‘O’ level credits passes to include English Language, Mathematics and any other 3 Arts/Social Science subjects

(v) Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) require a pass in Mathematics

(vi) University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) requires five O’ level credit passes which must include English Language, one Science subject, and at least three (3) Arts or Social Science subjects.

(vii) Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (ESUT) requires a credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Government and any two Arts or Social Science subjects.

(viii) University of Benin (UNIBEN) requires five ‘O’ level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics and any two Social Science subjects.

(ix) Benue State University, Makurdi accepts 5 O’ level credit passes from any Social Science or Arts subjects.

(x) Benson Idahosa University, Benin City same as in Sociology and Anthropology.
