WAEC subject combination (requirements) for Hospitality Management

You’re expected to have at least 5 credits on the required WAEC subject combination needed to study Hospitality Management in Nigeria polytechnics. This subject combination is also applicable to other O’level exams such as NECO AND GCE. The required WAEC subject combination (O level requirement) for Hospitality Management must include:
Biology/Agricultural Science, Mathematics and any three of the following: Geography, Food and Nutrition, Economics, Technical Drawing, English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Nigerian Language, Home Economics. At least credit passes in English Language and Chemistry are compulsory.
These listed subjects are compulsory for anyone writing WAEC and other O level examinations. I will advise you to include a Language in your O level subjects. For the record, if you are one of those students seeking admission into any polytechnics in Lagos State, Yoruba Language is compulsory for Hospitality Management. JAMB UTME subject combination (requirements) for Hospitality Management

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is a body responsible for your admission into the University or other institutions. Now I’m going to show you the compulsory JAMB subjects for Hospitality Management that you must register (English must be included because it is compulsory even though it may not be listed among the JAMB subjects below), and I will honestly advise you to aim for a score of 150 so that you can easily gain admission into any Polytechnics. Please note– English Language is compulsory. If Mathematics is not listed among the Jamb subject on this post, then Mathematics is not compulsory for this course. JAMB is not the only option to gain admission into Nigerian Universities to study Hospitality Management. Can a commercial or art student study Hospitality Management?

No! If you are a Commercial or an Art student, you cannot study study Hospitality Management at the polytechnic because it is a pure science course which need a good background in science subjects. To avoid discouragement, you can go for this course if you wish provided you have the required subjects combination in your O level result. If you’re still in secondary school, you may find it difficult to change subjects to fit your desired course during WAEC registration because some schools may go against it.

Special Consideration

Now I am confident that you know the compulsory subjects needed to study Hospitality Management in polytechnics. But note this — Some Polytechnics may accept D7 or E8 in some a compulsory subject instead of Credit. And some may accept or reject two sittings. That is combinations of WAEC, NECO, or GCE results. You will know more when you take a look at the special consideration (waiver) for Hospitality Management below if available.
 
Polytechnic Special Consideration/waiver for Hospitality Management
a) GIWAPOLY accepts any other subject in addition to two of the listed subject in course requirement.
b) Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos State (YABATECH) requires five O/L credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology/Agric. Science, Geography and any two of the following Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Geography, Food and Nutrition/Home Management, Government/ Commerce/Accounting.
d) WAVECREST is not co-educational and admits only female candidates. It requires FIVE O/L credits in Biology or Agricultural Science and any FOUR of the following Physics, Chemistry, Economics/Commerce/Accounting/Government, Geography, Food and Nutrition/Home Management, English Language, Mathematics. At least credit passes in English Language and Mathematics are compulsory.
e) Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin-Ladi requires O/L credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry , Biology/Agric. Sci, Economics, Health Science, Food & Nutrition, Geography
f) KWAPOLY accepts Basic Electricity, Health Science, Basic Catering & Food Service, Hotel & Catering Craft Service (Cookery), Hotel & Catering Craft Service (Food & Drinks Service) as course requirements, but Chemistry is not compulsory as a requirement for the course.
(f) Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Ondo State. (RUGIPO) credit pass in Chemistry is not compulsory.
(g) Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State requires credit passes in Chemistry and does not accept Technical drawing Nigerian language, Home Economics
(h)Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State requires a credit pass in Chemistry.
(i) Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechic, Unwana requires credit passes in Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry and any three of Geography, Food and Nutrition, Physics and Economics. It does not accept Economics as UTME subject.
(k)AUCHI POLY requires credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology/Agric, Geography, any other subject and at least a pass in Chemistry.
l) Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) requires four credits at one sittings or five credits at not more than two sittings to include English Language and Biology/Agricultural Science with at least a pass in Mathematics.
(m) Federal Polytechnic, Owerri, Imo State. requires credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology/Agric, Geography, any two subjects from Food and Nutrition, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Home Economics any Social Science subject, ICT/Data Processing or Computer Studies.
U.T.M.E. SUBJECTS:
i) Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu State (IMT-ENU) requires Biology/Agricultural Science, Physics and Chemistry.
ii) Federal Polytechnic, Owerri, Imo State. accepts any three of Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science, Mathematics, one Social Science subject.
