The Niger State College of Education, Minna fondly called the Niger State University of Education, Minna was established as an advanced teacher’s college by the defunct North Western State Government when there was a need to establish an additional Advanced Teachers College in order to meet the searing teacher needs in the state.
The college was cited in Minna in 1975. The first batch of students admitted into the college reported in November 1975. In 1983, the college was upgraded to the status of College of Education by the defunct civilian government in the second republic.

Pre-NCE Programme
Niger State University of Education, Minna also offer one year Pre NCE courses aimed at preparing candidate who are deficient in areas of great need in which candidates through JAMB are very difficult to get. Pre-NCE candidates are usually not qualified for direct admission. Successful students at the end of Pre-NCE course are absorbed into the NCE program for which have been trained.
