Obafemi Awolowo University College Health Sciences which was formerly called the Faculty of Health Sciences was established in 1971 but got approved by the senate in 1995. Faculty of Science was changed to the College of Health Sciences in 1995.

Obafemi Awolowo University College Health Sciences has 24 departments under three faculties and one institute. The three faculties are made up of departments of various medical disciplines while the institute focuses on multidisciplinary public health research and development efforts.

Obafemi Awolowo University College Health Sciences has the vision to be a globally acclaimed centre of excellence in medical education and research, the College offers cutting-edge and student-centred curricula, along with involving student experiences that help to foster community-oriented health care standards.

Following the National Universities Commission’s requirements, the Obafemi Awolowo University College Health Sciences has been restructured over the years to reflect the following:

  • Educational and training programmes being run at present, or expected to be initiated in the future,
  • Statutory requirements by the professional accrediting bodies for the various educational programmes,
  • Service functions delivered to the community.

  • Medical Pharmacology and Therapeutics
  • Medical Rehabilitation
  • Morbid Anatomy and Forensic Medicine
  • Nursing Science
  • Physiological Sciences

Faculty of Clinical Sciences
Consisting of ten (10) Departments:

  • Anaesthesia and Intensive Care
  • Community Health
  • Dermatology and Venereology
  • Medicine
  • Mental Health
  • Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Perinatology
  • Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology
  • Paediatrics and Child Health
  • Radiology
  • Surgery

Faculty of Dentistry
Consisting of four (4) Departments:

  • Child Dental Health
  • Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Pathology
  • Preventive and Community Dentistry
  • Restorative Dentistry

Institute of Public Health
A practice-oriented academic unit that provides a broad platform aimed specifically at promoting multidisciplinary public health research and practice as well as partnering with other institutions and development agencies to actualize the vision of health and development in Nigeria and beyond.
