List of Courses You Can Study Without Chemistry In Nigeria Universities

Chemistry is not a major core subject for some science courses. You don’t need credit in Chemistry to study some major courses in Nigeria universities but you definitely must have a passing grade like D7 or E8. Some of you are sitting at home for long because you don’t have credit in Chemistry or English Language but I have a piece of good news for you.

There are over 14 courses you can study without having credit in Chemistry. Yes!!! This is true but you may never know because you have never been within the four walls of the university. besides, no university will laud the fact that there are courses you can study without Chemistry unless you visit the university for consideration.

Now listen... There are so many science courses where Chemistry is not a requirement at all. The list below are courses where Chemistry is needed but you will be given admission if you have a D7 or E8. F9 is not an option. I repeat F9 is not an option.

Please note: What you’re about to read is only a list. Not all University accept E8 and D7 in Chemistry to study these courses. The comprehensive details like the universities offering such a course and some hidden requirements can be seen below.

Comprehensive details

Agricultural Science and Education Course

  • Ekiti State University and University of Calabar (UNICAL) accept a pass in (D7 or E8) Chemistry.
  • EDOMOK and University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) requires least a pass in (D7 or E8) Chemistry in SSCE/GCE/O’ Level or NECO/NABTEB in addition to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) minimum entry requirement.

Architecture Course

  • Federal University of Technology, Akure requires five credit passes at the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or NECO or GCE O/L or its equivalent at NOT more than two sittings in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Physics; and two credits from Technical Drawing, Chemistry, Geography, Fine Arts and Economics. Candidates must have at least a pass in (D7 or E8) Chemistry.
  • Osun State University Osogbo (UNIOSUN) requires Five “O” Level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics and Physics and any two credits from Technical Drawing, Chemistry, Geography, Fine Arts, Economics and at least a pass in (D7 or E8) Chemistry.

Building Technology – Under Engineering Course

  • Covenant University Ota requires English Language, Mathematics, Physics and additional two credit in the following subjects: Chemistry, Economics, Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics, Geography, Land Surveying, Building Construction, Biology and Agricultural Science. At least a pass in (D7 or E8) Chemistry is also required.

Building Course

  • Covenant University Ota requires English Language, Mathematics, Physics and additional two credit in the following subjects: Chemistry, Economics, Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics, Geography, Land Surveying, Building Construction, Biology and Agricultural Science. At least a pass in (D7 or E8) Chemistry is also required.

Computer Science – Under Engineering

  • Bells University of Technology, Otta requires five SSCE Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Economics/ Geography/ Biology. A pass in Chemistry is acceptable.

Home Economics and Education Course

  • University of Benin (UNIBEN) requires at least a pass in (D7 or E8) Chemistry and credit in Biology/Agric Science.
  • Tai Solarin University of Education Ijebu Ode (TASUED) requires Five GCE ‘O’ level or NTC/ NBC Credits at one sittings or six GCE ‘O’ level/NTC or NBC credits at two sittings in-including English Language, Mathematics and any other subject from: Food & Nutrition, Home Management, Clothing & Textile, Agric Science, Biology, Economics, Health Education and Chemistry. A pass in Chemistry is required.

Industrial Mathematics

  • Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba requires at least a pass in (D7 or E8) Chemistry.

Project Management Technology Course

  • Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) requires credit in Chemistry.
  • Federal University of Technology, Akure requires five SSCE credit in English  Language, Mathematics, Economics, Physics plus at least a pass in (D7 or E8) Chemistry or Biology/Agricultural Science at NOT more than two sittings

Physics Course

  • University of Calabar (UNICAL) and Kogi State University Anyigba require credits in Biology/Chemistry, Physics, English Language, Maths, candidates with a pass in English Language may be allowed to remedy the deficiency during the first year of study by taking and passing the University of Calabar (UNICAL) Remedial English. Accepts pass in Chemistry/ Biology /Mathematics.
  • University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) accepts 5 O’ level credit passes in Physics, Mathematics and English Language, as well as two (2) other credit passes from Agricultural Science, Biology, Further Mathematics, Statistics, Technical Drawing and Geography. A pass in Chemistry is also acceptable.

Mathematics Course

  • Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba and Ekiti State University require a pass in Chemistry
  • Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE) requires five SSCE credit passes including Mathematics, Physics, English Language plus two other Science subjects from Further Mathematics, Chemistry Science. At least a pass in (D7 or E8) Chemistry and Biology is mandatory.

Vocational and Technical Education

  • Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki requires five credit in WASSCE/GCE/ NECO or NABTEB Examination at not more than two sittings. For Technology Option: O’ level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry. For Agric Option: O ‘level credit in English Language, Mathematics, Biology or Agric Science and two other relevant subjects and at least a pass in (D7 or E8) Chemistry.

Technical Education

  • Tai Solarin University of Education Ijebu Ode (TASUED) requires Five ‘O’ level credits at one sittings or six ‘O’ level credits at two sittings in relevant subjects which must include English Language, Mathematics and any of three of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Technical Drawing, Applied Electricity, Woodwork, Building, Basic Electronics, Metal Work and auto mechanics, Auto Parts Merchandising, Air Conditioning and Refrigerator, Welding and Fabrication Engineering, Craft Practice, Electrical Installation and Maintenance Work, Block-laying and Concrete Work, Plumbing and Pipe Fitting, Carpentry and Joinery, Furniture Making or NTC/NBC subjects. A pass in Chemistry may be considered.
