English as a language we would recognize today was first spoken in early medieval times and is now one of the most spoken on earth. Every Nigerian student by default should understand, speak and know how to write good English Language, but to answer English Language examination question takes another form of understanding and many student fumbles.

Anyway, you don’t need credit in English Language to study some major courses but you definitely must have a passing grade like D7 or E8. Some of you are sitting at home for too long because you don’t have credit in English Language or Mathematics but I have good news for you. There are over 40 courses you can study without having credit in English Language.

There are over 40 courses you can study without having credit in English Language. Yes!!! This is true but you may never know because you have never been within the four walls of the university. besides, no university in Nigeria will inform you that there are courses you can study without English Language.

Now listen... English Language is a requirement for all courses. The list below are courses you can study even if you have D7 or E8. F9 is not an option. I repeat F9 is not an option.

Please note: What you’re about to read is only a list. Not all universities accept E8 and D7 in English Language to study these courses. What I mean is, if 50 universities offer a course, only 5 may admit candidates who did not have credit in the English Language.

Animal Nutrition Course

  • The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) offers Animal Nutrition
  • Bayero University, Kano (BUK) requires five O’ Level passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry
  • Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU), Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (ESUT), Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) & River State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) accept a pass in (D7 or E8) English.
  • University of Agriculture, Makurdi requires five (5) credits passes in SC/WASC/NECO/GCE 0′ Level (at not more than two sittings) including the following subjects: Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, Mathematics, English Language and any other subject. At least a pass in (D7 or E8) Physics is required. A credit in Agricultural Science must be backed with at least a pass in (D7 or E8) Biology. A pass in English Language is acceptable if high grades are scored in the Science subject.

Agricultural Engineering Course

  • University of Agriculture, Makurdi requires five credits passes in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any two of English Language, Biology or Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing, Geography and Economics. All candidates must have obtained at least a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language.

Computer Science Course

  • Madonna University, Okija, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University and Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) accept a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language.

 
Education and Biology Course

  • Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola (MAUTY) and Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye accept a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language.
  • Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) accepts a pass in English Language provided the candidate has a distinction in ‘O’ level Biology.
  • EDLAV accepts P.7 in English Language or Mathematics.

Education and Economics Course

  • EDALV accept a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language.

 
Education and Geography Course

  • Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) accepts at least a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language.
  • University of Abuja and Usumanu Danfodiyo University (UDUSOK) accept a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language
  • University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) accepts a Pass in English Language.

Electrical / Electronics Engineering Course

  • Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli and Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (ESUT) accept a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language.

Fisheries – Under Agriculture

  • Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) accept a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language.

Estate Management

  • Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli requires at least a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language.

Education and Chemistry

  • Cross River State University of Science &Technology (CRUTECH), Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU), Ahmadu Bello University, Usumanu Danfodiyo University (UDUSOK) and Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni accept a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language.
  • River State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) accepts a pass in English Language.

 
Education and Economics Course

  • EDALV accept a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language.

Education and Geography Course

  • University of Abuja, Gwagwalada and Usumanu Danfodiyo University (UDUSOK) accept a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language
  • Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) accepts at least a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language.
  • University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) accepts a Pass in English Language.

Education and Physics Course

  • Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) and Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola (MAUTY) accept a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language or a pass in TC II or NCE General English

Food Science and Technology

  • Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) and University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) accept a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language.

Industrial Physics

  • Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) and Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (ESUT) accept a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language
  • Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK) accepts a pass in English Language.

Mechanical Engineering Course

  • University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) accepts a pass in English Language.

Microbiology Course

  • Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU), Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli, University of Uyo and Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki accept a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language.

Physics Course

  • University of Calabar (UNICAL) credits in Biology/Chemistry, Physics, English Language and Maths. A candidate with a pass in English Language may be allowed to remedy the deficiency during the first year of study by taking and passing the University of Calabar (UNICAL) Remedial English
  • Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) and Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) may accept a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language

Food Technology Course

  • FEDPO-Nek and Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Ondo State. (RUGIPO) require at least a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language
  • Fidei Polytechnic, Benue State accepts five credits from SSCIE/GCE subjects. The subjects are to include, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology/Agric. Science/Health Science, Economics/Commerce, Additional/Further Maths, Statistics, Home Economics, Food and Nutrition/ Hotel Catering and Geography. A pass in English accepted.

 
Polymer Technology Course (Polytechnics)

  • Nigerian Institute of Leather Technology and Science Technology requires four or more O/L credit passes or its equivalent which must include Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Biology at least a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language in not more than two sittings.

 
 Statistics Course (Polytechnics)

  • The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State (The Polytechnic, Ibadan) accepts Credit passes in Economic/Commerce, Statistics and at least a Pass in English Language but does not accept History
  • FEDPONAS requires credits in Mathematics, a Social Science Subject, a basic Sci. subject and one other from the subjects listed in column 2 for Comp. Sci. Also, a pass in English Language is required.
  • Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Ondo State. (RUGIPO) accepts a pass in English Language.
  • Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) accepts four credits at not more than two sittings to include Mathematics with at least a pass in (D7 or E8) English language. English Language is not counted as a required credit pass.
  • Akwa Ibom State College of Arts and Science (AKCAS) requires credit passes in Mathematics, Physics/Chemistry and any other two subjects from Biology/Agricultural Science, Further Mathematics, Statistics, Technical Drawing, Physics, Chemistry and a pass in English Language.

 
Quantity Surveying Course (Polytechnics)

  • FIDEI and Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna (KAD-POLY) require at least a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language. It requires Mathematics, Physics and anyone from Economics, Geography or Chemistry as UTME subjects.
  • Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Ondo State. (RUGIPO) requires a pass in English Language.
  • Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) requires four credits at one sitting or five credits at not more than two sittings to include Mathematics, Physics/Chemistry with at least a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language.

Electrical / Electronic Engineering Course

  • Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli and Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (ESUT) accept a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language.

Agricultural Technology Course

  • Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro and Plateau State College of Agriculture require at least a pass in (D7 or E8) English
  • FCLT-OWER requires at least a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language.
  • FEDAGRIC-AKR requires at least a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language and Mathematics. Accepts four credit
  • FEDAGRIC-IBD requires at least a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language, Mathematics and Chemistry.

Animal Health and Production Technology Course

  • FEDWILD-NBUS requires a pass in English Language and Chemistry are compulsory
  • Plateau State College of Agriculture requires at least a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language and Mathematics/Physics.

Civil Engineering Technology Course (Polytechnics)

  • Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) requires five credits at not more than two sittings to include credit passes in Chemistry and Physics and at least a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language.
  • Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Ondo State. (RUGIPO) accepts a pass in English Language.

Environmental Health Technology Course

  • Mathematics, Biology/Health Science and any three from Nutrition, Chemistry, Physics, Religious Studies, Geography, Economics, Nigerian Language Plus at least a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language, Food and Nutrition/Home Management.

Forestry Technology Course

  • Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Ondo State. (RUGIPO) requires at least a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language and Physics are required.
  • FEDWILD-NBUS requires a pass in English Language and Chemistry are compulsory.
  • Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Ondo State. (RUGIPO) requires at least a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language.

Science Laboratory Technology Course

  • Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Ondo State. (RUGIPO) requires a pass in English Language and Physics is compulsory.
  • Nigerian Institute of Leather Technology and Science Technology requires at least a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language at not more than two sittings
  • Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Ondo State. (RUGIPO) requires a pass in English Language and Physics.

Surveying and Geoinformatics Course

  • Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Ondo State. (RUGIPO) requires credit pass in Physics or Chemistry and a pass in English Language.
  • MAPLOY does not accept Agricultural Science as an alternative to Biology but accepts at least a pass in (D7 or E8) English Language.
