This year, if you want to live abroad and study for free, you shouldn’t miss any chance with the Mexican Government Scholarship for international students. Scholarship. With more than 600 degree programmes and over 11,000 students on scholarship, Stipendium Hungaricum, being the most prestigious higher education scholarship programme of the Hungarian Government, offers a wide range of courses for international students of excellent academic track records.
The scholarship aims to support the internationalization of Hungarian higher education and its constant development, to strengthen the international relations of the academic and research community, and to promote the good reputation and competitiveness of Hungarian higher education throughout the world.
Founded by the Hungarian Government in 2013, the programme is supervised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and managed by the Tempus Public Foundation.
It is based on bilateral education agreements between Hungary and the governments of the sending countries, and is already available on five continents in almost 80 countries and territories, attracting more than 5000 international students each year. Applicants are offered more than 600 full degree programmes, covering all higher education fields at all degree levels, including part-time and doctoral programmes.
When the graduates return to their home countries with marketable skills and knowledge, they can build civil, political and economic relationships, contributing to Hungary’s image and recognition abroad.
Sponsorship duration
- Bachelor programs: Fulltime: 2-4 years; The Partial: 1 or 2 semesters
- Master programs: Fulltime: 1.5-2 years; and that of partial is 1 or 2 semesters
- One-tier master programs: Fulltime: 5-6 years; Partial: 1 or 2 semesters
- Doctoral programmes: Fulltime: 2+2 years; Partial: 1 or 2 semesters
- Non-degree programs:
- Preparatory course in the Hungarian language: 1 year
- Other preparatory and specialization courses: up to 1 year
Scholarship Provision Requirements
Bachelor’s, master’s, one-tier master’s and non-degree programmes

- Tuition-free education – exemption from the payment of tuition fee
- Monthly stipend – non-degree, bachelor’s, master’s and one-tier master’s level: monthly amount of HUF 43,700 (cca EUR 120) contribution to the living expenses in Hungary, for 12 months a year, until the completion of studies
- Accommodation contribution – free dormitory place or a contribution of HUF 40,000/month to accommodation costs for the whole duration of the scholarship period (Please note that if the student does not live in the dormitory, the HUF 40,000/month is a contribution to that rental costs, and in bigger cities – especially in the capital city – this contribution would not cover the full amount of rental costs.)
- Medical insurance – health care services according to the relevant Hungarian legislation (Act LXXX of 1997, national health insurance card) and supplementary medical insurance for up to HUF 65 000 (cca. 180 EUR) a year/person

- Tuition-free education – exemption from the payment of tuition fee
- Monthly stipend – doctoral level: according to the current Hungarian legislation, the monthly amount of scholarship is HUF 140,000 (cca EUR 390 for the first phase of education (4 semesters) and HUF 180,000 (cca EUR 500) for the second phase (4 semesters) – for 12 months a year, until completion of studies.
- Accommodation contribution page 6 / 24 – free dormitory place or a contribution of HUF 40,000/month to accommodation costs for the whole duration of the scholarship period (Please note that if the student does not live in the dormitory, then the HUF 40,000/month is a contribution to that rental costs, and in bigger cities – especially in the capital city – this contribution would not cover the full amount of rental costs.)
- Medical insurance – health care services according to the relevant Hungarian legislation (Act LXXX of 1997, national health insurance card) and supplementary medical insurance for up to HUF 65 000 (cca. 180 EUR) a year/person
