JAMB, approve 160 as cut-off mark for 2019 admission

Since yesterday 11th of June, 2019, at about 3 pm, I got an update of JAMB nationwide minimum cut-off mark for 2019 admission. I couldn’t publish because of how low and ridiculous it was. Anyway, the meeting has been concluded and the new JAMB cut off mark has been set to 160.
Yes, you heard me right.

  • JAMB new cut-off mark for all public universities in Nigeria for the 2022 academic calendar is 160
  • JAMB new cut-off mark for private universities in Nigeria for the 2022 academic calendar is 140
  • JAMB new cut-off mark for public polytechnic is 120 while and a private polytechnic cut-off mark is 110.
  • Also, 100 and above was approved for colleges of education.

However, you should note that not all universities will adhere to this new cut off mark especially those universities with 200 minimum JAMB cut off the mark last year. This new JAMB cut off mark will ensure strict admission screening in other to reduce the number of intakes especially those who score 180.

According to a news source,
The registrar of JAMB, professor Isiaq Oloyede in his speech disclosed that plans have been concluded to begin open examination for students seeking admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria. According to the JAMB Registrar, the step, which is a new innovation for the 2019 Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examination, UTME, was part of efforts to further curb examination malpractice.
He explained that the board was determined to provide one million questions for each subject out of which 50 would be taken for the examination per each candidate. The JAMB boss who warned that it has become a crime to collect password of candidates at CBT centre added that the innovation of remote network test will afford the body opportunity to monitor a functioning computer without going to the universities

Moreover,
“No Institution should charge above the Ministerial approved fee of Not More Than Two Thousand Naira (N2,000) for any form of Post-UTME screening exercise. “The Board and the Tertiary Institutions should ensure that candidates under the Special Needs category are considered for admission provided they meet the minimum requirements.
“Blind and deaf candidates, prison candidates foreign centre candidates, these candidates should be exempted from any other test apart from routine scrutiny of their credentials.
