UNICAF University Courses

You may have come to this page through one of my page link that points to scholarships for developing countries or through a search engine. It is the truth that UNICAF is indeed the leading online platform in sub-Saharan Africa, addressing an underserved part of the higher education market, through an affordable and flexible learning model. The UNICAF model has been very successful in enabling universities to develop online and blended learning programmes and to attract more international students.
Although UNICAF originates from an extensive higher education organisation, based in Europe and operating internationally, UNICAF has expanded into online and blended learning tertiary education and operates several university sites, as well as Learning Centres, in many African countries.
Through its partner universities, UNICAF provides internationally recognised undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, at a fraction of the cost through UNICAF Scholarship Programme. Thousands of students from developing countries have already benefited from the UNICAF Scholarship Programme, and have earned internationally recognised degrees from European, US and UK universities.

What is UNICAF University?

UNICAF University is a pan-African institution of tertiary education, which was established to offer high-quality Bachelor, Master’s and Doctorate degree programmes, with local and international recognition, thereby increasing access to quality higher education in sub-Saharan Africa and the region.
Students can also study towards university awards from British universities, which are in partnership with UNICAF University, at a fraction of the cost, taking advantage of the UNICAF Scholarship Programme. UNICAF University offers fully online and blended learning programmes through its state-of-the-art campuses. Students are taught by experienced local and international tutors, in a highly professional learning environment.

What is UNICAF University Scholarship?

UNICAF University co-operates with the UNICAF Scholarship Programme, one of the most generous scholarships for developing countries available today. Applicants facing financial difficulties are encouraged to apply for UNICAF scholarships, to enable them to study at UNICAF University, paying only a fraction of the cost of tuition fees.
The primary objective of the UNICAF Scholarship Programme is to make education affordable for students from Africa especially for developing countries, enabling them to pursue advanced academic studies and earn internationally recognised qualifications. UNICAF supported programmes have a strong professional and vocational focus with an international perspective, to prepare students for work in the global market place.

Why study at UNICAF?

Students choose to study with UNICAF for a variety of reasons such as:

  • The accredited, internationally recognised degrees awarded
  • The high quality of teaching, with regular, one-to-one contact with tutors and the social interaction with fellow students
  • The option to choose one of two flexible delivery models, (exclusively online delivery, or blended learning, which is a combination of online and classroom teaching)
  • The option to pay only a fraction of the tuition fees, through the UNICAF Scholarship Programme
  • The option to study at the time and place that is most convenient for each student
  • The option to study at their own pace
  • The option to study without neglecting professional or family commitments
  • Reliable and helpful student support services
  • The state-of-the-art, user-friendly digital platform

What does UNICAF offer that others do not?

UNICAF University offers full flexibility in teaching and learning, utilising different delivery models. The blended learning mode, for example, (only available at specific locations of UNICAF University), uses, in addition to current teaching practices, new and innovative methods, to enhance the learning experience. By combining face-to-face tutoring with elements of online learning and the use of the Virtual Learning Environment, blended learning allows for greater variety and flexibility than teaching in a traditional classroom set up, responding to the total needs of the modern learner. Both, the online delivery model and the blended learning model, share a few significant advantages for students such as:

  • 24/7 access to learning resources
  • Increased student participation because of being able to choose the learning environment, (online or blended learning), in which they feel more comfortable
  • Closer monitoring of students’ progress by tutors, using analytics provided by the UNICAF state-of-the-art Virtual Learning Environment
  • Ability to measure academic progress by collecting student data, that enable tutors to identify areas in which an individual student is excelling, or where they may need additional guidance and support
  • Flexibility to fit learning around professional and family commitments
  • Improved efficiency in learning: when students use adaptive learning technologies to work on their comprehension of new concepts, tutors can use the additional class time to give struggling students the individual attention they need

UNICAF’s Virtual Learning Environment is a state-of-the-art, cloud-based learning platform, which provides a compelling, user-centred and adaptable learning environment. It enables on-campus and online students to access learning material at any time of the day or night. UNICAF University students may review their classwork, listen to audio files, watch videos and make use of the material their tutors use in class, whenever they choose to do so.
This opportunity, to consolidate their learning in an engaging online environment, helps ensure success in coursework and examinations. Independent study skills are always important for success at university and using the Virtual Learning Environment is a key part of students’ work.

Learning process in UNICAF

Fully Online
Students choosing to study through the fully online delivery model have access to the state-of-the-art Virtual Learning Environment, which includes all the materials students need to study using videos, podcasts and other interactive methods. The online study takes place on an advanced learning management system, designed to optimize the students’ learning experience. The VLE allows students to interact with faculty and fellow students and have access to e-textbooks and digital libraries.

Blended Learning
Students choosing to study through blended learning have to access to the Virtual Learning Environment and, in addition, they attend face-to-face tutorials, which take place at one of UNICAF University’s state-of-the-art campuses to acquire maximum benefits.
Face-to-face tutorial teaching is a unique aspect of the educational experience offered to UNICAF University students. An academic tutor meets with students in small groups, typically three times a week, to offer tutorials on taught material. In these classes, students can develop a better understanding of topics and integrate ideas from their reading. Students attending the tutorials are expected to participate in discussions, exchanging ideas and views with fellow students and the tutor.

Independent learning
Learning at university level is very different from school or college. Students need to get used to different ways of studying, and to the different demands of each programme. Students also need to be proactive, manage their own time and develop their independent learning skills. UNICAF University’s Student Support Department provides help and guidance on how to study most effectively, and how to boost self-confidence and develop the attributes required for success at university and beyond.

Additional teaching methods
UNICAF University is committed to high quality, innovative teaching to help students reach their full potential. Through the use of technology, a wide range of additional learning methods is available to students. These include individual and group project work, problem-based and peer-assisted learning.
