WAEC subject combination (requirements) for Industrial Design

The subjects needed to study Industrial Design in WAEC must contain five (5) credit. This subject combination is also applicable to NECO AND GCE… The required WAEC subject combination (O level requirement) for Industrial Design must include

  2. Fine Art
  3. Mathematics
  4. Chemistry
  5. Spinning; Weaving; Surface Design and Printing; Bleaching, Dyeing and Finishing; Ceramics; Graphic Design; Graphic Printing; Decorative Painting, Spray Painting, Lining, Sign & Design, Wall Hanging, Colour Mixing/Matching and Glazing, Building/Engineering Drawing, General Wood Work.

JAMB UTME subject combination (requirements) for Industrial Design 

Knowing JAMB subjects for Industrial Design is not enough. You should aim for a score of 180 – 200 and above in JAMB UTME to be on a safe side (Just a piece of advice) because anything short of that may deny you of Admission/Post UTME. Of course, if you have a score below 180, you can consider College of Education or Polytechnic… Please note – JAMB is not the only option for admission. If you’re having troubles JAMB UTME maybe it’s time you pass through IJBM, JUBEB, ND, HND or Predegree!..

These are JAMB UTME subject combinations (subjects to write in jamb) to study Industrial Design are

Direct Entry requirement (required A-level result) to study Industrial Design
(i) ‘A’ level passes in Two of Fine Arts, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics.
(ii) ND in Industrial Design or Glass Technology or Fine Art at Credit level

Industrial Design is how many years course and under which faculty?

Depending on your mode of entry, Industrial Design is a three to four years course in Nigeria. According to JAMB, Industrial Design is under Faculty of Agriculture but may be under a different faculty in some universities.

Can a commercial or art student study Industrial Design?

No! Industrial Design is a pure science course and not suitable for commercial or art student. But if you have required subject combination in your O level result, you can go for it if that is the course you desire to study. If you’re still in secondary school, you may find it difficult to change subjects during WAEC registration because your schools may go against it. The alternative way to write the required subjects combination for Industrial Design is through GCE.

The SSCE O level and A-level subject needed to study Industrial Design have been listed above. Some Universities may accept D7 or E8 in some a compulsory subject instead of Credit. And some may accept or reject two sittings. That is combinations of WAEC, NECO, or GCE results. You will know more when you take a look at the special consideration (waiver) for this course.

What is Direct Entry special consideration (waiver) for Industrial Design
(i) Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria accepts NCE (Double Major) in Art and ND/HND (credit) in relevant fields.
(ii) Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria accepts a. “A” level / IJMB passes in Chemistry, and any of  Physics and Mathematics (b)  ND in Glass Technology pass at Credit level. from an accredited institution (c) NCE in Chemistry, pass at credit level. d.  HND in Science, Materials Science and Engineering, or in Chemical Engineering at Credit level from an accredited institution.
(iii) Bauchi State University, Gadau accepts ND/HND (upper credit) NCE (Double Major) in Fine Art, A’ Level in Fine and Applied Arts.
(iv) Federal University of Technology, Akure accepts two (2)  ‘A’ level passes in at least two subjects from the following: Mathematics, Chemistry, Geography, Physics, Fine Art, Technical Drawing or Economics
(vi)  Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola (MAUTY) accepts  (a) Two or three GCE `A’ Level passes one of which must be in Fine Art/Technical Drawing   b)  NCE Double Major in  Fine Arts c)  ND/HND with Upper credit in Art Design
(v) Cross River State University of Science &Technology, Calabar (CRUTECH) accepts NCE in Fine Arts or ND in Fine Arts with a minimum credit of 2.5.
What is WAEC, NECO, GCE special consideration (waiver) for Industrial Design
(i) Federal University of Technology, Akure requires five credit at the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSSCE) or NECO or GCE O’Level or its equivalent in NOT more than two sittings in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, and 2 of the following: Economics, Physics, Technical Drawing, Fine Art and Geography. Credit or Pass in Fine Art will be an additional advantage, while a pass grade in Physics will be acceptable.
(ii) Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola (MAUTY) requires Chemistry, Geography, Technical Drawing, Fine Art/Creative Art.
(iii) Bauchi State University, Gadau requires five O’ level credit English Language, Mathematics, any two from Fine Arts, Building Construction, Engineering Drawing and one of Chemistry, Physics, Agricultural Science or Geography.
(iv) Cross River State University of Science &Technology, Calabar (CRUTECH) requires five credit to include English Language, Mathematics and other from Arts or Social Science subjects. Fine Arts will be an added advantage.
(v) Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria requires five “O” level credit in English Language, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and any other subject.
What is JAMB UTME special consideration (waiver) for Industrial Design
(i) Federal University of Technology, Akure accepts Economics, Biology, Geography, and Technical Drawing.
(ii) Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola (MAUTY) accepts Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Geography.
(iii) River State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) accepts Economics, Physics and Geography in lieu of Chemistry but requires Mathematics and Technical Drawing/Arts.
(iv) Bauchi State University, Gadau accepts Chemistry, Mathematics and one of Fine Arts, Physics, Biology, Agricultural Science or Geography.
(v) Cross River State University of Science &Technology, Calabar (CRUTECH) requires any subjects.
(vi) Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria requires Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics and any other subject..
