JAMB UTME subject combination (requirements) for Food Science and Technology 

Knowing JAMB subjects for Food Science and Technology is not enough. You should aim for a score of 180 – 200 and above in JAMB UTME to be on a safe side (Just a piece of advice) because anything short of that may deny you of Admission/Post UTME. Of course, if you have a score below 180, you can consider College of Education or Polytechnic… Please note – JAMB is not the only option for admission. Food Science and Technology is how many years course and under which faculty?

Depending on your mode of entry, Food Science and Technology is a three to four years course in Nigeria. According to JAMB, this course is under Faculty of Agriculture but may be under a different faculty in some universities.

Can a commercial or art student study Food Science and Technology

No! Food Science and Technology is a science course and not suitable for commercial or art student. But if you have required subject combination in your O level result, you can go for it if that is the course you desire to study. If you’re still in secondary school, you may find it difficult to change subjects during WAEC registration because your schools may go against it. The alternative way to write the required subjects combination for Food Science and Technology is through GCE.

(i) Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) accepts OND/NCE/HND in Agriculture, Animal Health, Food Science, Food Science and Technology and Certificate of Registered Nurse (NRN) into 200 levels.

(ii) Abia State University, Uturu and Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola (MAUTY) accept OND in Food Science and Technology.

(iii) Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki accepts: (a) Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki accept NCE with minimum Merit passes in relevant fields. (b) HND and ND with minimum of Upper credit in relevant fields..

(iv) Federal University of Technology, Minna accepts OND lower credit/NCE merit in the Agricultural components of choice, and a minimum of merit in the other component; or a HND with a minimum of lower credit to be admitted into 300 level.

(v) Federal University of Technology, Akure accepts GCE (Advanced Level) or equivalent in at least two Science subjects including Biology or Agricultural Science or a National Diploma in Food Science and Technology with a minimum of Upper Credit from a recognized institution.

(vi) Michael Okpara University of Agricultural Umudike and Kano University of Science & Technology, Wudil (KUST) as in Agriculture

(vii) University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola (MAUTY) accept ND/HND in Food Science and Technology.

(viii) University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) accepts for the 4-year (Direct entry) B.Sc. programme, passes at principal level in the Higher School Certificate or equivalent in GCE Advanced Level in any two of the following subjects: Chemistry, Biology (Botany or Zoology), Agricultural Science, Physics, Mathematics.

(ix) River State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) requires three (3) A’ level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics plus UTME requirements. Accepts ND/UD (Upper) or HND for admissions into 200 level in relevant disciplines or Bachelor’s degree in any other Science/ Technology discipline plus UTME requirements.

(x) University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) requires candidates with a pass in Biology, but who have credit in Agric. Science may be considered. Ordinary pass in Physics is acceptable in lieu of Credit Pass.

(xi) Bells University of Technology, Otta accept OND (Upper Credit) in Food Science and Technology/Science Laboratory Technology with Biology/Virology/Chemistry/Biochemistry options.

(xiii) Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola (MAUTY) accepts (a) A Level passes in two of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics / English /Agric. Science (b) OND/HND in Food Science and Technology may be considered for 200 & 300 level

(xiv) Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) accepts upper credit in ND and HND in Food Science and Technology, Agricultural Programmes from recognised institutions in addition to UTME requirements.

(xv) University of Agriculture, Makurdi accepts UTME requirements plus GCE/HSC `A’ level passes in Physics and any one of Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology or Biology may be admitted to 200 level. Upper/Lower credit HND holders in relevant disciplines who posses the new UME requirement may be admitted to 300 level. Upper credit OND holders in relevant disciplines who possess the UTME requirements may be admitted to 200 level. Credit or higher Level NCE holders in relevant disciplines who possess the UTME requirements may be admitted to200 level.

(xvi) Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki requires H.SC or GCE ‘A’ Level in at least two relevant subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) obtained at one sittings and/or OND or its equivalent.

(xvii) Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State requires two A’ level passes in an any of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Biology or ND in Food Science and Technology, Science laboratory Technology 9Food Science Option) with minimum of Upper credit.

(xviii) Kano University of Science & Technology, Wudil (KUST) accepts: (a) ND in Microbiology and Biochemistry with a minimum of Upper Credit. (b) NCE Double major in related area of study with aggregates of eight (8) points.

(xix) University of Calabar (UNICAL) – In addition to the basic Departmental requirements, candidates must have a minimum of Upper Credit in ND in Food Science and Technology or GCE A’ level or its equivalent in at least two of Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Mathematics.

What is WAEC, NECO, GCE, Special Consideration (Waiver) to study Food Science and Technology
(i) Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) and University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) accept a pass in English Language.

(ii) University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) accepts a pass in Mathematics. Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (ESUT) also accepts a pass in Physics.

(iii) University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) requires credits in five (5) subjects at not more than two sittings in the Senior School Certificate Examination or its equivalent. The subjects must include: English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Biology (Botany or Zoology) or Agricultural Science and any other science subject.

(iv) University of Agriculture, Makurdi accepts Physics, Biology or Agric. Science.

(v) Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) accepts a credit pass in either Mathematics or Physics.

(vi) Federal University of Technology, Minna – Same as in Water Resources, Aquaculture and fisheries Technology.

(vii) Kogi State University Anyigba and Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki require five Credit passes to include Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology or Agric. Science, Physics and English Language.

(viii) Bells University of Technology, Otta, ESUT ECH and Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) accept a pass in Physics

(ix) University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) requires a pass grade in Physics. University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) requires at least a pass in Biology for credit pass in Agric. Science or Food and Nutrition.

(x) University of Calabar (UNICAL), Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State and Abia State University, Uturu require five ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agric. Sci and Physics.

(xi) Michael Okpara University of Agricultural Umudike requires five O level credit passes in not more two sittings to include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology.

(xii) FUniversity of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)AB and Federal University of Technology, Akure require five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology or Agricultural Science. Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) does not accept Agricultural Science in lieu of Biology.

(xiii) University of Agriculture, Makurdi requires Five (5) SSC/WASC/GCE/NECO `O’ level or equivalent Credit passes (at not more than tow sittings) categorized as follows:- a) 5 credit passes in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science and English Language.

(xiv) Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State (FUWUKARI) – Same as in Agriculture.

(xv) Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola (MAUTY) requires credit passes in Chemistry, Physics/Further Mathematics and any one from Biology/ Agric. Science/ Food and Nutrition.

What is JAMB UTME Special Consideration (Waiver) to study Food Science and Technology
(i) Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (ESUT) and Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) require Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology or Physics.

(ii) Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) does not accept Agric. Science.

(iii) Federal University of Technology, Akure requires English Language, Chemistry, Physics and any of Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science.

(iv) Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State and University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) accept Biology in lieu of Agric. Sci.

(v) Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, Bells University of Technology, Otta accept Chemistry, Biology and Physics or Mathematics

(vi) Kogi State University Anyigba and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK) require Chemistry, Mathematics/ Physics, Biology/ Agric. Science

(vii) Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) requires Chemistry, Biology and Physics or Mathematics.
