WAEC subject combination (requirements) for Vocational and Technical Education
You need Five SSCE credits in NTC, City & Guilds Part I or WAEC Technical and Federal Craft Training Certificate including
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Technical Drawing
- Physics

- A trade subject
JAMB UTME subject combination (requirements) for Vocational and Technical Education
Knowing JAMB subjects for Vocational and Technical Education is not enough. You should aim for a score of 180 – 200 and above in JAMB UTME to be on a safe side (Just a piece of advice) because anything short of that may deny you of Admission/Post UTME. Of course, if you have a score below 180, you can consider College of Education or Polytechnic… Please note – JAMB is not the only option for admission. If you’re having troubles JAMB UTME maybe it’s time you pass through IJBM, JUBEB, ND, HND or Predegree!..

Depending on your mode of entry, Vocational and Technical Education is a three to four years course in Nigeria. According to JAMB, this course is under Faculty of Education but may be under a different faculty in some universities.

The SSCE O level and A-level subject needed to study Vocational and Technical Education have been listed above but, some Universities may accept D7 or E8 in some a compulsory subject instead of Credit. And some may accept or reject two sittings. That is combinations of WAEC, NECO, or GCE results.
What is Direct Entry Special Consideration (waiver) to study Vocational and Technical Education
(i) Tai Solarin University of Education Ijebu Ode (TASUED) accepts National Technical Teachers’ Certificate (NTTC) in Education with credit in C & G and Federal Craft Training Certificate equivalent.
(ii) Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma accepts (i) a pass in General English at NCE/Diploma levels as an equivalent of ‘O’ level credit in English Language. (ii) Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma accepts merit pass in NCE/Diploma in Home-Economics.
(iii) accepts Economics/Commerce for Accounting Education; Agric and one other Science subject for Agric Education while Biology or any other Science subject is required for Home Economics.
(iv) A pass in Mathematics is acceptable in Vocational and Technical Education.”
(iii) Benue State University, Makurdi awards B.Sc Ed Technology.
(iv) Osun State University Osogbo (UNIOSUN) accepts candidates with any of the following qualification: (a) A pass at least at merit level in a relevant diploma programme (provided the University’s English Language requirements have been met) (b) Two passes in relevant subject areas at Advanced Level with SSCE/GCE “O” Level credit in three other subjects at not more than two sittings. (c) Three passes in relevant subject areas at Advanced Level with SSCE/GCE ‘O’ Level credit in two other subjects at not more than two sittings. d. At least merit in two major subjects in relevant areas in the NCE with SSCE/GCE “O” level credit or its equivalent in three other subjects, including English Language.
(v) Benue State University, Makurdi accepts NCE, ANTC, ND with credit in SSCE, NTC, GCE, City and Guilds and WAEC Technical with credit in Federal Craft certificate.
(vi) Niger Delta University Yenagoa (NDU) accepts: Direct Entry Applicants into 300 Level in a 4 year Degree Programme (a) National Certificate of Education with passes at credit level or higher in two (2) major subjects in relevant areas. (b) Higher National Diploma Certificate with passes at credit level or higher in a relevant area of study. (c) For B.Ed (Technology) Programme: Holders of National Certificate of Education and Higher National Diploma Certificate with passes at credit level or higher in a relevant area of study. Direct Entry Applicants into 200 Level in a 4 year Degree Programme (a) A minimum of two(2) passes at Advanced level in relevant subjects in the General Certificate Examination. (b) Ordinary National Diploma/National Diploma Certificate with passes at credit level or higher in a relevant area of study. (c) National Certificate of Education with passes at merit level in two (2) major subjects in relevant areas. d. For B.Ed (Technology) Programme: Holders of National Certificate in Education, City and Guilds and National Business Certificate/ National Technical Certificate. (NBC/NTC) with advanced or merit level passes in relevant subjects.
(v) Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki accepts HND, NCE and ND with a minimum of Merit and Upper credit respectively in the relevant fields.
What is WAEC, NECO, GCE Special Consideration (waiver) to study Vocational and Technical Education
(i) Niger Delta University Yenagoa (NDU) as in Accountancy for Business Management option. Accepts credit in Commerce or economics for Office Management Technology; credit Pass in Agri. Science or Biology for Agric. Education and Home Economics Education.
(ii) Ekiti State University accepts a pass in NCE General English in lieu of ‘O’ level credit in English Language.
(iii) Osun State University Osogbo (UNIOSUN) requires Five SSCE Level credit in relevant subjects or its equivalent at not more than two sittings in addition to an acceptable pass in the UTME.
(iv) Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki requires five credit in WASSCE/GCE/ NECO or NABTEB Examination at not more than two sittings. For Technology Option: O’ level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry. For Agric Option: O ‘level credit in English Language, Mathematics, Biology or Agric Science and two other relevant subjects and at least a pass in Chemistry.
(v) Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma accepts a pass in Mathematics for Vocational and Technical Education.
(vi) Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (ESUT) requires: a) For Technical credit in English Language, Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry and three other relevant subjects. b) For Accounting/Commerce and Cooperative credit in English Language, Mathematics, Economics or Commerce and Principle of Accounts, plus three other relevant subjects. c) For Agriculture credit in English Language, Mathematics, and Chemistry, Agricultural Science or Geography and two other relevant subjects.
(vii) Benue State University, Makurdi requires credit in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any two of Chemistry, geography, Technical Drawing, Woodwork, Metalwork, Building Technology or Electrical Technology
What is JAMB UTME Special Consideration (waiver) to study Vocational and Technical Education.
(i) Niger Delta University Yenagoa (NDU) – As in Accountancy and Secretarial Administration for Business and Vocational and Technical Education options respectively.
(ii) Niger Delta University Yenagoa (NDU) – As in Agric. Economics for Agric. Education and Home Economics options.
(iii) Benue State University, Makurdi accepts any three of Mathematics or Physics and any two of Chemistry, Geography, Technical Drawing, Wood Work, Metal Work, Building Technology or Electrical Technology.
