WAEC subject combination (requirements) for Physical and Health Education

The subjects needed to study Physical and Health Education in WAEC must contain five (5) credit. This subject combination is also applicable to NECO AND GCE… The O level requirement, that is, the required WAEC subject combination for Physical and Health Education must include

  1. English Language
  2. Biology or its equivalent.

JAMB UTME subject combination (requirements) for Physical and Health Education 

Knowing JAMB subjects for Physical and Health Education is not enough. You should aim for a score of 180 – 200 and above in JAMB UTME to be on a safe side (Just a piece of advice) because anything short of that may deny you of Admission/Post UTME. Of course, if you have a score below 180, you can consider College of Education or Polytechnic… Please note – JAMB is not the only option for admission. If you’re having troubles JAMB UTME maybe it’s time you pass through IJBM, JUBEB, ND or Predegree.

Direct Entry requirement (required A-level result) to study Physical and Health Education
(i) Two ‘A’ level passes in any of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.

What is Direct Entry Special Consideration (waiver) to study Physical and Health Education
(i) University of Ibadan (UI) and Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni accept passes in two major subjects at the NCE/’A’ level with GCE ‘O’ level credits or equivalent in three other subjects in Arts, Social Science and Science.

(iii) Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) accept ‘A’ level passes, NCE and any three other ‘O’ level or TC II subjects passed at credit/merit level.

(iv) Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma accepts (a) NCE in Health Education, Environmental Sanitation, Physical Education, Social Works, Public Administration, Nursing, Public Health Inspectors Certificate from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and other recognized institutions. (b) A credit in General English and General Mathematics in NCE is accepted in lieu of ‘O’ level credit in English and Mathematics respectively.

(v) Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (ESUT) accepts candidates with minimum of merit passes in four NCE subjects one of which must be Physical Education or pass in NCE/ND for two and three year programme respectively in Physical Education option.

(vi) Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (ESUT) accepts candidates with minimum of merit passes in three NCE subjects.

(xii) Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe require A/L pass in Biology or Zoology.

(xiii) EDALV, University of Uyo and NAU accept Technical Teachers Certificate in Health Education.

(xiv) Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK), University of Uyo and EDALV accept RN/NRN, Public Health Nursing Officers’ Certificate, Advanced Diploma in Health Education, Health Superintendent Certificate and equivalent qualification. (Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK) -Nursing only) plus UTME requirements.

(xv) EDALV accept for the 2 year programmes NCE (distinction), credit in Health & Physical Education Health Nursing and Midwifery tutors.

(xvi)Bayero University, Kano (BUK) accepts Certificate in Nursing.

(xvii) Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK) requires Credit in English Language and Biology or Food and Nutrition for both UTME and DE candidates.

(xviii) Lagos State University, Ojo (LASU) accepts NCE Physical Education at merit level and TC II in Arithmetic process/Mathematics. Does not accept ND or HND.

(xix)Ekiti State University accepts two ‘A’ level/NCE passes in Biology and either Health Education or Integrated Science plus UTME requirement.

(xx) University of Benin (UNIBEN) for Health Education: (a) requires two NCE merit passes one of which should be Health Education, Biology or Integrated Science plus three ‘O’ level credit including English Language at one sittings. (b) Registered Nurse Certificate and four ‘O’ level credit at one sittings including English Language.

(xvii) University of Benin (UNIBEN) for Physical Education : (a) requires 2/3 NCE merit passes chosen from Physical Education, Health Education, Biology and Integrated Science plus 3/2 ‘O’ level passes including English Language at one sittings.

(xxi) Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) (For Physical and Health Education) accepts two ‘A’ Level credit which could be from any subject area. NCE in Physical and Health Education plus U.M.T.E. requirements. Certificate in Nursing (RN) Health Education Community/Public Health/Hygiene is acceptable as equivalent of A-level NCE in Primary Education Studies and any other teaching subject is also acceptable

(xxii)Bayero University, Kano (BUK) accepts NCE in PHE not below Merit passes. Also accepts Certificate in Nursing.

(xxiii) University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) accepts: For Physical Education (a) 2 or more A’ level passes in GCE/HSC of which one must be Biology/Zoology plus UTME requirement, (b) At least merit level pass in NCE Health & Physical Education/Integrated Science/Food & Nutrition. (c) Merit level pass in National Institute for Sports (NIS) certificate. For Health Education: (a) Public Health Nursing or/Registered Nurse (RN)/ Registered Midwife (RM)/ Registered Nurse Tutor (RNT)/ Community Heath Officer (CHO) Certificates Merit level in NCE Health & Physical Education or Biology/ Integrated Science/ Food & Nutrition from an approved College of Education recognized by the University of Nigeria.

(xxiv) University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) requires Certificate in Nursing/ Midwifery or equivalent in addition to Direct Entry requirements.

(xxvi) University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) may interview all candidates seeking admission into the Department of Physical and Health Education. Accept NCE/TC II with merit grade.

(xiv) Tai Solarin University of Education Ijebu Ode (TASUED) accepts (a) NCE with at least Merit in related subjects – Physical Education, Health Education, Biology, plus UTME requirement. (b) Registered Nurse plus UTME requirement (c) Two ‘A’ level passes in Physical Education, Health Education, Biology, plus UTME requirement.

(xv) University of Uyo accepts candidates without A/level or NCE Mathematics but must take remedial in the subject in year one.

(xvi) Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) (For Health Education) accepts two NCE or A/ Level Credit/Merit including Biology or Health Education and any other subject UME requirements Certificate/ Nursing (RN)/Health, Education/Health Science/Community/Public Health/Hyiegene is acceptable as equivalent of A level.

(xvii) University of Lagos (UNILAG) accepts NCE (in Biology, Health Education, Integrated Science, Physical and Health Education), Registered Nurse plus UTME requirements.

(xviii) University of Jos (UNIJOS) accepts (a) Two or more ‘A’ level /IJMB pass in which must include Biology or Zoology. (b) NCE (merit) in Physical and Health Education. (c) ND (credit) in Physical and Health Education. (d) at least pass in a three-year Health Education, Health Technology, Nursing, Public Health or an equivalent health programme from a recognised institution in addition to the O’ level requirements.

(xviii) Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba accepts: (a) Diploma in Physical and Health Education. (b) NCE in Physical and Health Education, Biology, Health Science. (c) Certificate/Diploma in Nursing (RN)/Health, Education/Health Science/Community/Public Health/Hygiene.

(xvii) Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria accepts Merit passes in Diploma from School of Health Technology. Preference will be given to NCE holders &A first degree from a recognized institution for Direct Entry. National Diploma from Accredited Institutions.

What is WAEC, NECO, GCE Special Consideration (waiver) to study Physical and Health Education
(i) Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye and University of Calabar (UNICAL) accept NCE General English in lieu of credit at ‘O’ level English.

(ii) Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) (For Physical and Health Education) requires five ‘O’ level credits or TC II merit passes including English Language and any other three Sciences, Social Science or Art Subjects.

(iii) Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) – Biology is not mandatory

(iv) University of Ibadan (UI), University of Port-Harcourt (UNIPORT), Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) require English Language and any three subjects.

(v) University of Calabar (UNICAL) – No admission through UTME.

(vi) EDALV accepts Health Science in lieu of Biology for Health Education, but Biology is mandatory for Physical Education.

(vii) Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK) require Mathematics, English, Biology, Health & Physical Educ. or Health Science/Health Education.

(viii) University of Benin (UNIBEN) requires Five ‘O’ level credit/TC II merit passes to include English Language and one Science subject.

(ix) Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) require English Language, Biology and at least a pass in Mathematics.

(x) University of Ibadan (UI) – same as in Human Kinetics.

(xi) University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) and EDKAN require a credit in Mathematics.

(xii) Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo requires credits in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and any other Science subject except Health Science/Agricultural Science.

(xiii) University of Uyo requires credit in English Language and Chemistry.

(xiv) Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma requires at least a pass in Mathematics

(xv) Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba requires Five ‘O’ level credits/TC II merit passes in five subjects including English Language, Biology, Mathematics and any one Science subject..

(xvi) Ekiti State University requires five credit to include English Language, Mathematics, Biology/Health Education and one Science subjects at one sittings.

(xvii) Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) requires at least a pass in Mathematics and two other subjects

(xviii) Tai Solarin University of Education Ijebu Ode (TASUED) requires Five ‘O’ level credits at one sittings or six ‘O’ level credits at two sittings to include English Language and at least one Science subject and Mathematics.

(xix) Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria requires Five ‘O’ level credits/TC II merit passes in five subjects including English Language, Biology, Mathematics and any one Science subject.

(xx) University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) requires: For Physical Education (a) 5 O’ level credit to include Credit in English Language & Biology/Health Science/or Physical Education/ Agric. Science in WASC/GCE/NECO/ SSCE obtained in not more than 2 sittings. (b) TC II merit pass in five subjects including English Language, Biology/Physical Education/Agricultural Science.
For Health Education: (a) Five SSCE/GCE/NECO credits/ TC II merit passes in five subjects including English Language, Biology/Health Science/Physical Education or their equivalent in not more than two sittings.

(xxi) Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) (For Health Education) requires five ‘O’ level credit or TC II merit passes including English Language, any one of Biology/Health Science/Integrated Science, plus any other three subjects.

(xxii) University of Lagos (UNILAG) requires credit in Biology and Mathematics.

(xxiii) University of Jos (UNIJOS) requires five SSCE credits/TC II merit passes to include English Language, Mathematics and Biology or Health Sciences.

(vi) Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria requires five ‘O’ level credit in English Language, Mathematics and others in Physical Education, Health Education, Physical and Health Education or any one science subject from Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

What is JAMB UTME Special Consideration (waiver) to study Physical and Health Education
(i) University of Benin (UNIBEN) – requires one Science subject and two other Science or Social Science subjects.

(ii) Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo requires Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry.

(iii) Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) requires Biology or Health Science.

(v) Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba requires Biology as one of the UTME subjects.
