WAEC Subject Combination For Technical Education
In WAEC, NECO or GCE, you are expected to register a maximum of 9 subjects for a Technical Education degree. You can register for less than 9 subjects if you are resitting.
However, you must have at least 5 credit passes amongst the 9 subjects listed below before you can gain admission into any Nigerian university to study for a Technical Education degree.
Remember, the requirement you’re about to read is also applicable to all o level examinations. (WAEC, NECO and GCE). We have painstakingly highlighted (in red) the core subjects on which you must obtain credit before gaining admission. Any subject with blue colour means, a pass is allowed.

- Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (ESUT) and the Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola (MAUTY) accept TC II.
- River State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) requires a credit in Physics.
- (iii) Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (ESUT) requires candidates to have credit in the subject area of his option. Also candidate’s UTME subjects must include the subject area of his option.
- Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK) accepts a pass in ‘O’ level English Language.
- Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni requires credit in Technical Drawing and Physics. Accepts WAEC Technical, City and Guilds and Federal Craft Training Certificate.
- River State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) accepts NCE General English and Basic Mathematics in lieu of O’ level credits in English Language and Mathematics.
- University of Benin (UNIBEN) requires Mathematics and other subjects chosen from Physics, Chemistry, Applied Electricity, Technical Drawing, Woodwork and Basic Electronics.
- The University of Uyo requires credit in English Language and Chemistry.
- For Agric. Option Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki accepts Agric, Science or Biology plus Chemistry and one other subject.
- Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) requires five O’ Level credit including English Language, Physics and a pass in Mathematics. C & G with relevant O/L qualifications may be an advantage
- Tai Solarin University of Education Ijebu Ode (TASUED) requires Five ‘O’ level credits at one sittings or six ‘O’ level credits at two sittings in relevant subjects which must include English Language, Mathematics and any of three of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Technical Drawing, Applied Electricity, Woodwork, Building, Basic Electronics, Metal Work and auto mechanics, Auto Parts Merchandising, Air Conditioning and Refrigerator, Welding and Fabrication Engineering, Craft Practice, Electrical Installation and Maintenance Work, Block-laying and Concrete Work, Plumbing and Pipe Fitting, Carpentry and Joinery, Furniture Making or NTC/NBC subjects. A pass in Chemistry is required.
- Niger Delta University Yenagoa (NDU) requires Five ‘O’ level credit in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any two Science subjects.
- University of Lagos (UNILAG) also requires credit in Physics/Technical Drawing and any other science/technical subjects.
- Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba requires Five ‘O’ level credit in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any two Science or Social Science subjects.
