WAEC subject combination (requirements) for Biology

You’re expected to have at least 5 credits on the required WAEC subject combination needed to study Biology in Nigeria universities.

The required subject combination must include;

  1. English Language
  2. Biology
  3. Chemistry
  4. Maths/Physics
  5. A trade subject

The above WAEC subject combination is also applicable to other O’level examinations such as NECO and GCE. So now that you know the compulsory O level requirement to study Biology, let also look at UTME and Direct requirements and course descriptions.

 

JAMB UTME subject combination (requirements) for Biology

Prepare yourself well so you can score above 200 in JAMB UTME to be on a safe side (Just an advice) because anything short of this score may deny you Admission/Post UTME. Of course, if you have a score below 180, you can consider College of Education or Polytechnic

Please note – JAMB is not the only option for admission. If you’re having troubles JAMB UTME maybe it’s time you pass through IJBM, JUBEB, ND or Predegree.

JAMB UTME subject combination (subject to write in jamb) to study Biology are

  2. Chemistry
  3. Physics or Mathematics.

 

Direct Entry requirement (required A-level result) to study Biology

(i) Two A, level passes from Chemistry, Biology, Botany/Zoology.
(ii) NCE accepted with at least merit level pass

Course description: Biology is the study of life in all its various forms, from simple viruses to complex organisms such as human beings. You explore the science that underpins developments in areas such as biotechnology, genetics and treatments for disease.

This BSc programme provides a broad survey of the various biological disciplines, including biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, infection and immunity, evolution, genetics, microbiology and the physiology of animals and plants. You learn how biology influences our everyday lives and drives social change

 

Special Consideration
The SSCE O level and A-level subject combination (requirements) had been listed above but, some Universities may accept D7 or E8 in some a compulsory subject instead of Credit. And some may accept or reject two sittings. That is combinations of WAEC, NECO, or GCE results. What is Direct Entry Special Consideration (waiver) to study Biology
(i) Federal University of Technology, Minna accepts Physics

(ii) University of Lagos (UNILAG) requires Biology but does not accept NCE.

(iii) Federal University of Technology, Minna and Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki accept NCE (credit), ND/HND lower credit plus UTME requirements into 200 and 300 level respectively. (Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki 200 level only).

(iv) Kings University, Ode Omu (UNIKINGS), Ajayi Crowther University, Ibadan (ACU) and Cross River State University of Science &Technology, Calabar (CRUTECH) – Same as in Microbiology.

(v) Kano University of Science & Technology, Wudil (KUST) accepts ND/NCE or relevant qualification (Upper Credit/Merit) in Biology, Health Science/ Zoology or Botany.

(vi) Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin accepts NCE passes.

(vii) Crescent University (CUAB) accepts ND in relevant fields.

(viii) Umar Musa Yar’ Adua University Katsina (UMYU) requires five O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, and any of Biology/Agricultural Science or Geography or Computer Studies in not more than two sittings.

(ix) Federal University of Technology, Akure expects applicants to possess in addition to (a) above GCE Advance Level or equivalent in at least two of the following subjects: Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry and Physics/Mathematics. Holders of National Diploma from a recognized institution with a minimum of Upper credit in SLT, Science Technology, Food Technology, Food Microbiology or related disciplines are also eligible for admission.

(x) Godfrey Okoye University, Ugwuomu-Nike – Enugu State and Evangel University, Akaeze – Same as in Microbiology.

(xi) Cross River State University of Science &Technology, Calabar (CRUTECH) accepts ND/HND (lower credit) in Biology, Biotechnology, Zoology, Microbiology, Botany, Laboratory Science, or related fields plus UTME requirement.

(xii) Kebbi State University, Kebbi requires GCE A’ level/NCE, IJMB or equivalent in Biology and Technical Drawing or Chemistry, Geography or Physics in addition to O’ level credit passes in Mathematics or Physics. It also accepts ND/HND at credit level in relevant fields.

(xii) Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja – Same as in Computer Science.

(xiii) University of Abuja, Gwagwalada accepts At least two A-level credit passes in Biology, Botany, Zoology and Chemistry or Physics. Or NCE (minimum 10 points) and ND(upper credit) in relevant disciplines.

What is WAEC, NECO, GCE Special Consideration (waiver) to study Biology
(i) Kings University, Ode Omu (UNIKINGS), Godfrey Okoye University, Ugwuomu-Nike – Enugu State and Ajayi Crowther University, Ibadan (ACU) – Same as in Microbiology

(ii) Kano University of Science & Technology, Wudil (KUST) accepts a credit in Agricultural Science.

(iii) Gombe State University, Gombe accepts pass in Physics.

(iv) Edwin Clark University, Kaigbodo and Umar Musa Yar’ Adua University Katsina (UMYU) requires five credits to include English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and any other Science subject in not more than two sittings

(v) Kaduna State University, Kaduna (KASU) only accepts Physics or Geography as the other Science subject.

(vi) Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja accepts English Language, Mathematics, Biology and any other two Science subjects.

(vii) Federal University of Technology, Akure requires five credit passes in English language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science

(viii) Federal University of Technology, Minna – Same as Geology.

(ix) Evangel University, Akaeze – Same as in Microbiology.

(x) Kebbi State University, Kebbi requires credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology and any two of Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Geography and Physics at not more than two sittings.

(xi) University of Abuja, Gwagwalada accepts five credit passes at SSCE (or its equivalent) in English, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and any other Science subject.

What is JAMB UTME Special Consideration (waiver) to study Biology
(i) Evangel University, Akaeze, Kings University, Ode Omu (UNIKINGS) and Ajayi Crowther University, Ibadan (ACU) – Same as in Microbiology.

(ii) Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja requires Mathematics, Biology and any other Science subjects.

(iii) Federal University of Technology, Akure accepts Agricultural Science in lieu of Biology.

(iv) Salem University, Lokoja and Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti – Ekiti State require Biology, Physics and Chemistry.

(v) Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja – Same as in Computer Science.
