WAEC subject combination (requirements) for Education and Social Studies

The subjects needed to study Education and Social Studies in WAEC must contain five (5) credit. This subject combination is also applicable to NECO AND GCE… The required WAEC subject combination (O level requirement) for Education and Social Studies must include

  1. English Language
  2. Plus two Arts /Social Science subjects

 

JAMB UTME subject combination (requirements) for Education and Social Studies 

Knowing JAMB subjects for Education and Social Studies is not enough. You should aim for a score of 180 – 200 and above in JAMB UTME to be on a safe side (Just a piece of advice) because anything short of that may deny you of Admission/Post UTME. Of course, if you have a score below 180, you can consider College of Education or Polytechnic… Please note – JAMB is not the only option for admission. Direct Entry requirement (required A-level result) to study Education and Social Studies
(i) NCE (Social Studies) from recognised colleges.

Education and Social Studies is how many years course and under which faculty?

Depending on your mode of entry, Education and Social Studies is a three to four years course in Nigeria. According to JAMB, this course is under Faculty of Education but may be under a different faculty in some universities.

Special Consideration
The SSCE O level and A-level subject needed to study Education and Social Studies have been listed above but, some Universities may accept D7 or E8 in some a compulsory subject instead of Credit. And some may accept or reject two sittings. That is combinations of WAEC, NECO, or GCE results. You will know more when you take a look at the special consideration (waiver) for this course

What is Direct Entry Special Consideration to study Education and Social Studies
(i) Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) accepts NCE (Social Studies) from recognized Colleges of Education, NCE Social Studies combined with any Social Science subject or Arts is acceptable to O.A.U. plus three other subjects including English passed at credit levels in GCE O/LEVEL or TC II at credit/merit levels in relevant subjects or Associationship Certificate in Education (Social Studies) of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) or its equivalent passed at credit/merit level
(ii) EDALV and OSSCE require NCE (merit) passes in two subjects including Social Studies.
(iii) EDZAR and EDKAN – Admission by Direct Entry only. EDZAR requires credit in English Language at ‘O’ level and four other credits which should include two Arts/Social Science (i.e. Geography/Physics, History, Government etc). Also accepts NCE Social Studies and any other subject from recognised institution with a minimum of ‘C’ grade across including Education.
(iv) University of Benin (UNIBEN) requires 2/3 NCE merit passes including a Social Science subject plus 3/2 O/L credit- including English Language and Mathematics at one sittings.
(v) Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni– Same as in Geography Education.
(vii) EDZAR requires three A’ level/NCE (merit) including Social Studies History with a minimum of ‘C’ grade across including Education.
(viii) University of Calabar (UNICAL) same as in Education Arts.
(ix) Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki requires NCE/Two ‘A’ level passes in social studies, Government or History.
(xi) Tai Solarin University of Education Ijebu Ode (TASUED) accepts: (a) Two ‘A’ level/ NCE (Credit/ Merit) in Economics, Government /Political Science, Religious Studies, History, Geography and Social Studies. (b) National Diploma (ND) (Upper Credit) in Public Admission, Local Government Administration
(xii) University of Abuja, Gwagwalada accepts: Two A-level Credit passes in relevant Subjects/ NCE (minimum 10 points) in addition to ‘O’ Level requirements
(xiv) Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba accepts two NCE Merit passes in History, Home Economics, Fine Arts Social Studies,Religious Studies, Home Management, Political Science, Guidance and Counselling, Educational Management.
(xv) University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) – Preference will be given to NCE holders for Direct Entry. General English at NCE level is not acceptable as a replacement for O’ Level credit (i) Ekiti State University accepts any three subjects

What is WAEC, NECO, GCE Special Consideration to study Education and Social Studies
(i) Ekiti State University accepts any three subjects.
(ii) Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) accepts Fine Art, Home Management and Music with credits in at least 2 of Economics, Govt., Geog, History and Religious Studies. TC II holders should have merit passes in any 2 of History, Home Economics, Social Studies, Fine Art and Religious Studies.
(iii) EDALV- same as University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
(iv) Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) requires at least a pass in O/L Mathematics.
(xvi) Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) requires credit in two subjects from Geography/Physics, Economics, History and Government.
(vi) University of Benin (UNIBEN) requires Mathematics and 2 Social Science subjects.
(vii) Abia State University, Uturu requires fives SSCE credit in passes in English Language plus three other subjects and at least a pass in Mathematics.
(viii) EDZAR requires ‘P’ in Mathematics.
(ix) University of Calabar (UNICAL) requires five O/L credits in English Language and other relevant subjects and accepts a pass in Mathematics.
(x) Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) requires Five ‘0’ credit including English Language. Candidates with GCE O/L background should have credits in at least two of Economics, Geography, Government History, Music, Fine Arts, Religious Studies and Home Economics. Those with TC II should have merits in English and two of Social Studies, History, Government, Home Economics, Fine art and Music, Religious Studies and Literature in English.
(xi) Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni– Same as in Geography Education.
(xvii) Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki requires five SSCE credit in English, Mathematics, Government, Biology and any one other social science subject.
(xviii) Godfrey Okoye University, Ugwuomu-Nike – Enugu State requires credit in Mathematics.
(xix) Kogi State University Anyigba requires five O’ level credit to include English Language, Pass in Mathematics and four other relevant subjects.
(xx) Tai Solarin University of Education Ijebu Ode (TASUED) requires five ‘O’ level credits at one sittings or six ‘O’ level credits at two sittings to include English Language, Mathematics, and Social Science Subject.
(xxi) University of Abuja, Gwagwalada requires five Credit Passes at SSCE (or its equivalent) to include Mathematics, English Language and three other relevant Arts/Social Science subjects.
(xxi) Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba requires five credit including English Language Mathematics plus two Arts/Social science subjects.
(xxii) University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) requires five O’ level credits in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics and two from the following subjects: Economics, Social Studies, F/A, Civic Education, Government, Commerce, Marketing and Business Management.

What is JAMB UTME Special Consideration to study Education and Social Studies
(i) Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) requires at least Two of Economics, Geography/Physics, Government and History.
(ii) University of Benin (UNIBEN) requires Mathematics and any two of Economics, Government and Geography.
(iii) University of Calabar (UNICAL) same as in Education Arts.
(iv) Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni – Same as in Geography Education.
(v) Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki accepts any three Arts or Social Science subjects.
(vi) Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba requires at least Three of Economics, Geography, Biology/Agricultural Science,CRS/IRS Government /History.
(vii) University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) requires Mathematics plus two other social science subjects from Economics, F/A, Government, Commerce and Geography.
