WAEC subject combination (requirement) for Political Science
You’re expected to have at least 5 credits on the required WAEC subject combination needed to study Political Science in Nigeria universities.

This combination of subjects (o level requirement for Political Science) must include

  1. English Language
  2. Government/History
  3. Any other three subjects from Arts/Social Science with at least a pass in Mathematics.
  4. A trade subject

The above subject combinations are also applicable to other O’level examinations such as NECO and GCE. So now that you know the compulsory O level requirement to study Political Science, let also look at UTME and Direct requirements and course descriptions.


JAMB UTME subject combination (subjects needed) for Political Science
Prepare yourself well so you can score above 200 in JAMB UTME to be on a safe side (Just an advice) because anything short of this score may deny you Admission/Post UTME. Of course, if you have a score below 180, you can consider College of Education or Polytechnic

Please note – JAMB is not the only option for admission. If you’re having troubles JAMB UTME maybe it’s time you pass through IJBM, JUBEB, ND or Predegree.

JAMB UTME subject combination (subject to register in jamb) to study Political Science are

  1. Government/History
  2. Two other Social Science or Arts subject


Direct Entry requirement (required A-level result) to study Political Science
Two A’ level passes to include Government or History.

What is Direct Entry Special Consideration to study Political Science
(i) Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma in addition to O’ level requirements accepts GCE A’ level or HSC/NCE pass in Economics or Business Management and at least one other subject; or ND Business Administration (Upper credit) from recognised Polytechnics.

What is WAEC, NECO, GCE Special Consideration to study Political Science
(i) Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma accepts five O’ level credit passes obtained at not more than two sittings in relevant subjects to include English Language, Government, Mathematics and any other two Social Science subjects.

(ii) Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State (FUWUKARI) – Same as in Economics.

(iii) Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi State (FULOKOJA) requires credit passes in English Language, Government/History, two Social Science subjects and any other subject. Candidates must have at least a pass in Mathematics

What is JAMB UTME Special Consideration to study Political Science
(i) Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma accepts Mathematics, Government and any other Social Science subject.
