IMPORTANT NOTE
Pharmacy course last a minimum of Five years for UTME candidates and Four years for Direct Entry applicants. M.B.B.S. and B.D.S. last a minimum of Six years for UTME candidates and 5 years for Direct Entry applicants. Some Universities may accept holders of good degrees in relevant disciplines as Direct Entry candidates.

 

WAEC subject combination (requirements) for Pharmacy

You’re expected to have at least 5 credits on the required WAEC subject combination needed to study Pharmacy in Nigeria universities.

The required subject combination must include:

  1. English Language
  2. Physics
  3. Mathematics
  4. Chemistry
  5. Biology
  6. A trade subject

The above WAEC subject combination is also applicable to other O’level examinations such as NECO and GCE. So now that you know the compulsory O level requirement to study Pharmacy, let also look at UTME and Direct requirements and course descriptions.

 

JAMB UTME subject combination (requirements) for Pharmacy

Prepare yourself well so you can score above 200 in JAMB UTME to be on a safe side (Just a piece of advice) because anything short of this score may deny you Admission/Post UTME. Of course, if you have a score below 180, you can consider College of Education or Polytechnic

Please note – JAMB is not the only option for admission. If you’re having troubles JAMB UTME maybe it’s time you pass through IJBM, JUBEB, ND or Predegree.

Direct Entry requirement (required A-level result) to study Pharmacy

Three ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry, Biology/Zoology and Physics or Mathematics plus UTME Requirement.

What is Direct Entry Special Consideration (waiver) to study Pharmacy
(i) University of Benin (UNIBEN) and University of Uyo do not accept ‘A’ level Mathematics.

(ii) Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) accepts B.Sc. with a minimum of 2nd Class Honours in relevant discipline (Sciences).

(iii) University of Benin (UNIBEN) accepts ‘A’ level Botany in lieu of Biology.

(iv) University of Lagos (UNILAG) accepts; (a) Very good passes in three (3) JUPEB/A-LEVEL subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Biology (b) Does not accept B.Sc Degrees.

(v) University of Benin (UNIBEN) accepts B.Sc. Second Class (Hons) in related fields.

(vi) University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) accepts: (a) Three A’ level passes to include Chemistry, Biology/Zoology/Botany and Physics plus UTME requirement in not more than two sittings. (b) Bachelor’s degree in any of Biological Sciences, Health Science and Technology, or Medical Sciences with a minimum of second class honours lower division plus UTME requirement. (c) HND in Biological Sciences, Health Science and Technology or Medical Sciences with a minimum of an upper credit plus UTME requirement.

(vii) Niger Delta University Yenagoa (NDU) accepts: (a) Hold at least a Bachelor’s Degree (Second Class Honours) from a recognized University in Chemistry or any of the Biological Sciences. (b) Have a pass in Physics, Mathematics, or Statistics, Chemistry and Biology or Zoology or Botany at the Advanced Level (GCE) or Higher School Certificate at not more than two sittings. (c) General requirement for admission in the University, i.e, credit in five (5) relevant subjects including Mathematics and English Language at the Ordinary Level GCE, or WASC/SSCE/NECO.

(viii) Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye accepts Botany in lieu of Zoology.

(ix) University of Jos (UNIJOS) does not accept Mathematics for Physics. University of Jos (UNIJOS) accepts B.Sc Second Class (Hons) and above in related fields. It accepts for Direct Entry Candidates with ‘A’ level requirements plus five ‘O’ level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

(x) University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) accepts minimum aggregate of 12 Points or B.Sc. (Second Class Honours Upper Division) in Anatomy, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Physiology, Zoology, Chemistry and other Basic Sciences (Plant Biology and Industrial Chemistry.)

What is WAEC, NECO, GCE, Special Consideration (waiver) to study Pharmacy
(i) University of Ibadan (UI)  Same as in Medicine and Surgery.

(ii) University of Lagos (UNILAG) requires Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Addition to English Language and Mathematics. As in Medicine.

(iii) Niger Delta University Yenagoa (NDU) requires five ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics.

(iv) University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and University of Uyo – Requirements in not more than two sittings
