WAEC and JAMB subject combinations for all courses in Nigeria

About WAEC

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is an examination board established by law to determine the examinations required in the public interest in the English-speaking West African countries, to conduct the examinations and to award certificates comparable to those of equivalent examining authorities internationally[1].

Established in 1952, the council has contributed to education in Anglophonic countries of West Africa (Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and the Gambia), with the number of examinations they have coordinated, and certificates they have issued. They also formed an endowment fund, to contribute to the education in West Africa, through lectures, and aid to those who cannot afford education.

JAMB maybe responsible for 60% admission into higher institutions in Nigeria, WAEC or other O level results are compulsory requirements for admission and may be requested as part of an official document for federal government jobs.

The need for correct subject combinations in your WAEC or JAMB cannot be overemphasized because it is the foundation for admission entry into any Nigeria higher institutions. Every course has its own subject combinations though some courses may likely have the same.

As a student, it is expected of you to register the compulsory WAEC and JAMB subject combinations for the course you have chosen to study. But what are subject combinations? These are compulsory secondary school subjects that you must pass with at least a credit before you can be admitted to study your desired course. These subjects are the foundation of the course you’re going to study at the university.

For example, a science student who wants to study biochemistry will not register any subjects that are not science subject. The university expects that, for you to study biochemistry, you must have had a good background on science subjects.

You should take note that not all science courses have the same subject combinations. So it is expedient to know the right subject combinations for a particular course and that is what this page is all about.

How many subjects should I write in WAEC?
In WAEC, you are required to register 7 – 9 subjects to include Mathematics, English, Civic and a trade subject. You are expected to pass at most 5 subjects among the 7 – 9 subjects to gain admission. Some university requires 6 subjects especially when you’re using two results.

How many subjects should I write in JAMB?
